This being the first Sunday in the Church year I thought I might start a new year myself and with that new year I've set the goal of updating on a regular basis. Yea! What follows is something I wrote this afternoon. Please, please give me feedback. Hope things are going well with everyone. I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving and look forward to seeing those who I missed over winter break.
My Dreams
My name is Erica. I am 20 years old and a sophomore at the University of Kansas where I spend most of my time studying or doing things with the Episcopal campus ministry, Canterbury House. I am part of the Sophomore Honors Society, Lambda Sigma, and was elected one of twenty to be a University Scholar. I value effort and timeliness.
I like to read historical fiction, family psychology and science fiction. My favorite color is purple and the TV shows I like the most are "West Wing" and "Sex and the City." I like to receive mail and spend a lot of time talking on my cell phone. I like to believe I know the principles of cooking but my true talent lies in being able to get things clean. Emily Post is my role model. I love coffee and I like chocolate but I dislike chocolate in my coffee.
My dream is to be an M.D./ PhD. who is fluent in three languages: English, French and Spanish. I think I might get my PhD. in organic chemistry but am not entirely sure. I would like to move back to St. Louis so I can be closer to my parents and can only hope one of the two medical schools in the area will accept me. After residency, I want to open my own practice (possibly dermatology) and teach at the same time. I figure I will open my office early in the morning, around 6 a.m., and close mid-afternoon that way I will be able to pick my kids up from school or go over to a university to teach.
I would like to get engaged in the next few years although I do not plan on getting married as an undergraduate. I would like to be married in my home parish, St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ladue and wish for a small dinner reception afterward.
I do not want to have kids until after I have finished medical school and have set up my own practice. I would like to have two or three children and live in nice neighborhood in a moderately sized house. I do not see myself as being a minivan driver although I do intend to be a soccer mom. I would like to chaperone a band trip and prom. I want my kids to be close to my parents.
I realize that some of this may never come true and some things that I never dreamed would happen, will but on this twenty-eighth day of November these are my dreams.
