Useless

My birthday is in a few days which is kind of interesting. To sound morbid I’m getting one birthday closer to death. Taking this out of conscious, I plan on enjoying my day and spending it with my closest family and friends. Due to everyone working, I will have to celebrate during the weekend.

It looks like I might not have the money to purchase a pet. With my bills climbing and no interviews scheduled, I will have to go back and work at a local retail chain.

I am inclined not to go to any comic book conventions this year. Maybe next year with a steady income I will venture off to Emerald, Planet, Comic-Con, Baltimore. All conventions I went to before I started focusing on acquiring a Bachelor’s degree. I might consider traveling to Toronto because I haven’t been out of the country in ages.

List combined from Diamond and Comiclist. (*) Indicates the comic books I’d purchase if I only had around $20.

The Hood #1-6 (Marvel Comics, ‘02)
This is a very decent story from the early part of the 2000. I have a problem leaving reveals for the last issue. This leaves more stories to be told if the miniseries sells well. If it doesn’t then your left with a few questions. I liked the art. I would purchase the discounted trade paperback version of this mini. Rating 7.4/10

Messiah War “Prologue” - Chapter 1-7 (Marvel Comics, ‘09)
This is one of those crossovers that left me scratching my head. Instead of being a character chase the story switched into a villain returns. The art was inconsistent throughout the different books which did not help. This is the second part of a three part event which like many sequels failed. Read this series of comics if you want to be up to date on the newest mutant, Hope, otherwise leave these issues on the quarter bins. Rating 7.1/10

Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds #1-5 (DC Comics, ’08-‘09)
There are always two things that team comic books resort to, the rescue and the single character story. Legion of Three Worlds incorporates the rescue story for the first part then delves along the multiple versions of the super hero team origin. There are too many characters to begin with, since different versions die within the miniseries and it seems a little “who cares.” The story suits the artist because Perez is known for his work on team books. I would purchase this story if it were available in the discount bin. Rating 7.4/10

The Cleaners #1-4 (Dark Horse Comics, ’08-‘09)
I wasn’t expecting the genre shift from a murder mystery to a horror story. There is a good concept of how abnormal people are. I liked how self contained the story was though it left room for a subsequent sequel. The illustration was okay with some nice visual tricks. This would be a nice miniseries to read as a discounted collected volume. Rating 7.6/10
