So, this week, with a stinking sore throat, I went back down to St Andrews for a couple of days, partially to get a library book, partially because I wanted to get away from my parents, my dad yelling at me to get a job [surprisingly, the market for people looking for 6 weeks work starting at the end of July is low], and a brilliant time was had.
I had a nice Go-playing lunch with Edwin, followed by acquiring a useful Topology textbook. Then at go club that evening, the majority of my maths half-friends [Scott, Dave Miller, Arthur, Tony] turned up, and we had a great night. I ran into Rory, Chris Phang and Andrew Black from school, who I'd not seen in a couple of years there, surprisingly, and had got hyper with the least sane postgrad I know. You know it's a good night when, after heading to the postgrad's flat, discussing literature, whether or not knowledge of the Mean Value Theorem impacted WWII and DS games, we ended up on Castle Sands at 3am trying to climb the cliffs. And no one was even injured. I hung around the maths building the next day, got a bit more of the project done, and had lunch with a group of geek-scientists, and have set up the idea of "Dissertation Club" for next year. The first rule of Dissertation Club is "You do not talk about Fight Club".
Today I've met up with David Hay, we discussed how the final epsiodes of the Sopranos are, and he dragged me to see Transformers, which is surprisingly entertaining and really funny at points. It reminded me oddly of Snakes on a Plane in tone. Now to read the final Harry Potter novel. I think Dumbledore's going to die in this one.
I'm listening to some great Pulp B-sides, with the last 3 epsiodes of Sopranos and all of Asylum to watch. Things are good.
summer holiday,
