I have a tradition of acknowledging national holidays in my own weird way and doing so took me up the road quite a ways yesterday.
This is why I spent Friday in New Bern. The turn-out was phenomenal and that meant I had a lengthy wait. But I didn't mind since
weisshund and I just hung out on the phone together until it was almost my turn. This was especially good since I needed to vent about recent problems at the DHoC and he was curious about giving blood. By the time the nurse called me, I'd like to think that we both felt better and it was a pleasant way to blow off an hour or so.
If you've never given blood before, I hope you'll give it a try sometime. After all, you never know who might need your help and every donation can save up to three lives.
To tie this in with my brighter, fictional world, this is who I was thinking about while I did it:
Eye candy by
guiltyschuicons Why was I thinking of a bunch of seiyuu? Well, without these four talented men giving them such wonderful voices, I doubt Melpomene would've ever coerced me into writing about the men of Weiss.
While seeing so much blood, I was reminded of two battle scenes coming up in "Breaking All the Rules" which I hope to get back to editing sometime soon. Then again, I'd also like to get caught up on email which has languished due to my being away from home most of this past week. Time is tight, though, and we'll just have to wait and see what I can fit in before being gone again.
Something else I really want to get to work on is "Painful Lessons" the newest piece for Gojyo and Hakkai ala Saiyuki: Reload. Talk about an angst-fest. Bloodied bishounen right from the get-go and plenty of darkness. Melpomene reawakened because of this manga-based storyline and I'm terribly grateful to her for that.
To put this into perspective, it should be noted that I started writing that story almost a year ago (September 15, 2006, to be exact) and the very idea that it is sitting here unpublished makes me nervous. I certainly won't interrupt the flow of the Weiss Kreuz threesome mini-arc to focus on that, but I just wondered if anyone out there is interested in it currently or not. Opinions?
However, unless or until things stabilize again at the DHoC, there's just no way to know when any of this fanfiction stuff will happen. {dark sigh and a shrug}
Even though I'd really love to stay here in Havelock for the weekend since the Crystal Coast will be crawling with tourists, I won't.
I'd be a total jerk if I was willing to help strangers by giving blood and then turned my back on my mom when she needed some extra TLC. So, I'll be leaving here sometime soon and will spend at least one night over there if not two. For whatever mysterious reason, the dementia has been especially bad this week. She seems unusually agitated about the Labor Day weekend, but I have no idea why.
Oh, on the broken toilet front, there is absolutely no progress to report. Apparently the builder who I need to talk to first is on vacation through at least the beginning of next week. Ugh.
To salute the blood drive, I spent ten minutes yesterday morning searching for an icon, but came up empty. That's when I remembered this one from
ainabarad_icons which just might come in handy when chapters 2 & 3 of book 3 of the Realizations Arc finally debut. Um, it'll be handy for chapters 1, 2, 4, etc. of "Painful Lessons", too.
To all my friends here in the USA: Have a Happy Labor Day and drive carefully! I love you all, but would prefer if none of you needed any of that blood some of us have worked so hard to donate.
