Based on ten votes for "Redux" and only one for "Reawakened", I hereby proclaim that my new username at MediaMiner.org will be....
E-sama the Llama: Redux
I am thrilled with this result and truly appreciate all of the votes plus the feedback left here supporting it. My hope is to set up the new ID later this week and if this translates into more work from Melpomene soon, I'll be sure to pass that along to everyone.
On another topic entirely, my beloved friend
yanagi_sen and many others are gathering in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this weekend for AnimeIowa. Thus, as a probably useless public service announcement, I thought I'd offer a
link to a truly wonderful art museum. The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art houses a large collection of works by Grant Wood, creator of the iconic portrait known as
American Gothic. Sadly, that amazing piece is not on display here, but there's a lot of his other works and it's all well worth a visit. There are some interesting non-American pieces of Roman marble and much more, so if you're in Cedar Rapids with a couple of hours to just explore a little, head over and check it out.
Um, in case you wonder why I know about this, well, my mom grew up in Cedar Rapids and I spent many a summer there. Oddly enough, I didn't discover the art museum until I went there with Amanda while we were in town for a memorial service for my grandmother a few years ago. After we got back, we were telling my mom about how cool it was---she'd never been to the museum and has no plans to go---yet she in turn surprised us by telling tall tales of my grandmother being tutored by Wood's friend and fellow artist, Marvin Cone. Now, I can't swear to the veracity of that story, but it certainly added some family history to the entire adventure.
By the way, my sister and her daughter got out of New Bern on time today and that was a relief. They hit a few snags en route back to Indianapolis, but that's fairly typical this time of year. I, unfortunately, made very little progress on my errands after that due to a weather-induced headache, but that's nothing new. It's August. Of course it's going to be unpleasant for awhile. {tired sigh}
