Update - July 'til now

Aug 13, 2006 20:02

It's getting longer between drinks here... I'm somewhere between feeling guilty about not doing something else (composing comes to mind a lot which is great!) instead of posting, and giving up on it all together due to lack of interest/audience/demographic... I was re-excited by the adding of 2 new interesting LJ friends but 1 of them has just packed it in, too.

Anyway, I'm here now cos I've done so much that I don't feel guilty anymore :P I've worked myself into an LJ state HAHAH

Social Highlights
  • Games night at Lionel's with me, Cathy, Gill, Sue, Stu, Belinda & Jeff. Yummy Thai curry (vege green curry and scrumptious prawn one) was cooked and served. Then we broke out Articulate (like Taboo but without taboo words) and Cranium :) Then tiramisu was served. Awesome night!
  • Sushi Station buffet at West End with M. $13 for Sunday lunch - all you can eat sushi and a special of the day noodle dish. Stay away from appetising looking spring rolls. Go for sushi and dessert served with condensed milk.
  • coffees and visits to and from isi13, dreeft, eviltomato, Kat, snuck, Louise (it'd been months!),
  • saw Sleeping Beauty ballet with my sister. Was wonderful to spend time with her and introduce her to fine arts.
  • performed with community orchestra (BCO) at retirement village in Durack - so nice I want to retire there!
  • got some badges - 1 to cover stupid Polo logo on jacket and 1 for my violin case :D
  • saw Cloudgate with M, Therese, Joon & Glen, a Brisbane Festival event - Taiwanese dance company performed this wonderful (and symbolic, as M interpreted) piece with piles of brown rice on stage; it rained and fell on the stage and they danced around in it - it was such wonderful art
  • unfort. just as we were trying to find park to get to the show, some idiot reversed into MyCar, no-one hurt but I was without my little beast for over 2 weeks :( however it came back so shiny that I've fallen in love with it all over again.
  • day out with sirkahless at West End - went to King Ahiram? Kebab (yummy cheap Leb food!), Bent Books, other book shop with cafe, more shops - enlightening and entertaining
  • night out at snuck's with yummy vegan curries and a scrumptious vegan choc pecan pie cooked by moontorch, peon374. We watched Austin Powers 1 & 2, also with sendai, ronniefaerie, houseofdog and others.
  • saw Deep Blue with Steve, another Brisbane Festival event - part of sustainable 21st century orchestra project. It was a little cheesy but an interesting concept. Awesome schmoozy night waffling with big composers and student musicians :)
  • saw Moon Spirit Feasting with Amanda (who won free tickets YAY!), yet another Brisbane Festival event - ritual street Chinese opera, composed by Liza Lim. She ended up sitting next to us so I had another little schmooze :) It was contemporary which Elision (ensemble) always are but Liza Lim's straight personality and choice of influences always interest me.
  • Cathy's 30th b'day brunch (10am? I don't get up that early for work :P luckily I love her) with scrumptious b'fast of frittata then waffles and lots of tea/coffee. There with host Lionel, M, Sue, Stu, Justin, Jen Tsen, Joon, Glen, Wendy and Eddy.
  • had brunch at Crepe Cafe with Sue & Cathy, followed by goss and shopping! (What could be better?)
  • went to 3 Monkeys with M, Jarrod & Kat this arvo :)

    Music and Work-related Highlights
  • My big boss (Head of School) told me (and others at a meeting) that I was the best Concert Officer they'd ever had and he's been there for over 20 years so w00!
  • Handing over an arrangement of Corpus Christi Carol to Collusion
  • Hearing it sound beautiful in a run-through at the handover
  • Starting rehearsals with the Tropical Dance Orchestra
  • Playing along with 3 of my fave ex-students (though I felt very outclassed)
  • Played TDO gig at Bronco's Leagues Club with my Mum, Dad and sis in the audience - a very cool gig
  • Played BCO major concert and it went rather well and the All Male Verdi Choir sang some famous and lively stuff - folk songs and opera
  • Had my arrangement of Corpus Christi Carol played by Collusion with lots of ppl mentioning how beautiful an arrangement it was :)
  • Quite a few work concerts already with everything going well and lots of interesting music - so many concerts that just getting each one done is a relief

    ME Highlight
  • got myself a eyebrow wax (not really a highlight but an event in my life) and then a heavenly massage

Well, that's taken me 3 days to write and now I'm outta time... more when I get another chance. Please feel free to ask me anything that interests you. I've always wanted to help anyone else with any enlightenment on what I do and what you're doing. Otherwise why else would I be here?
