Monday morning progress

I always get involved and forget to take photos of the working in progress steps, but here is Ruthie sitting on her own after inserting the hip weight (butt weight really I guess).  It's about 3 lbs of small pea-sized loose pebbles (gardening supplies), wrapped in batting and sewn into a  cloth bag, (approximately a  10" by 5" inch ovoid shape) inserted in the hip and butt area, with the spine sitting directly on it. Batting replaced around to shape, and  base fabric and doll skin sewn closed over it. I also added another two layers of fabric overtop the base fabric on the butt, cut and sewn in an  oval approximating the shape of the bag inside, to make a sturdier base under the skin.

I've dressed her here in her underclothes of nylons and slip; I think I will tack the slip straps to her shoulders so they dont, well, slip around.

ALL that is left is the neck and head. Telling myself not to fret if it takes me a while to work this attachment out to my satisfaction (also atttempting a joint to make her head be able to turn a bit). At this point,  I suppose I could go ahead and stitch the wig onto the head now.

As well as doll crafting, I have to take some time today doing dishes and straightening up the kitchen to bake Desmond's birthday cake. Will need to go to the grocery store and pick up some baking stuff too, otherwise I won't get very far on the cake! Note to self: don't forget to find my Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle t-shirt to wear to the party on Saturday!  B cleaned out the feezer (a big task) for me yesterday so I can put the cake in there; will bake cake tonight but not thaw and frost until closer to the party date.
