Overall, she's just a big old rag doll. Soft joints at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. You can tell where the tabs are on the shoulders, but it made the joint more secure to sew them this way. (Next time, I'll join the arms to torso before covering with the nylon doll skin; that way, the joints won't show.) On this doll, they'll be hidden under the dress anyway. She sits pretty well as is, but I am going to add a hip weight to help seat her just a bit more. Does have a spine armature as well, which will go up into the head. The knees are a simple joint, but actually they look pretty good (like kneecaps), espicially when I get them clothed in nylons. So, creating the hip weight (which should be fairly easy) and attaching the head (which is going to take some work to get it to look right and be secure) are about all I have left to do on Ruthie Rumble.
Do need to see about getting a big box and lots of bubble wrap to ship her in. I have no idea what shipping is going to cost. Probably send via UPS?
Feel I've learned a lot on this project, and it should make the work on the second commission go even more smoothly. Although, I'll have to do more detailing on the body for the second client (wants her thinner and bustier, more like the body I made for Suzi-Rose) and I'll have to create a better set of hands since they won't be covered by gloves. Anyway, have to finish up Ruthie first before I switch tracks.
Probably wil give myself a little leeway and do the Marie Antoinette Bust doll project before really getting started on Lucy's Layla (probably also after I get back from visting my father in a couple weeks)
Glad I am feeling better today. I was just really out of it yesterday. I even caught myself almost crying a couple times, tearing up. And fo no real reason, other than don't forget to take your meds--they do help keep me balanced. Came home from work yesterday, cuddled with B for a while and went to sleep. Didn't get up til 8 am this morning. Got up and made good progress on Ruthie before having to get ready to come into work this afternoon. I have tomorrow off then, hoping to make more progress on the doll.
Anyone reading this knows by now I repeat myself all the time. I think saying things over and over makes them more real to me, and so for stuff like what remains to be done on the doll, that helps me to eventually and actually get it done. Makes for boring reading though, I'm sure.
I have to bake a birthday cake this week too. Desmond's party is next Saturday. Am using a Wilton cake pan of a TMNT face; so, all I really need to worry about is doing a decent job on the frosting. May make it a double layer cake though, Des wanted white funfetti but Hannah wanted chcocolate cake, and that would mean more cake to go around for everyone as well.
Like so. Done in frosting, not fondant though.
Maybe if I have time thought. Got a pair of hippie harem pants, stitched together (purposefully) raggedy on the yoke. (They are kind of a plum colour that I may overdye a deeper purple, to go with a wonderful custom made leather hip belt I ordered. Or may just leave be for more color and contrast. have to see how it looks when I actually receive the belt.) Wondering about pinning on my ribbon flower brooches and/or making some doll head brooches, covering the seams with those and tassels and such--and then giving them away at Burnng Man, (Gifting is one of the tenets of the event). Costume for the event and giftings. :)
