This is a short obligatory sock post between political posts.     Here is a sock (not a pair yet, you'll notice) that combined three different yarns from three different manufacturers.  It is, though you can't tell it from this picture, the left sock of the pair:

It's been a bit hectic but I did finally finish the third pair of shorty socks today.   There's a long story behind that, but it's almost bedtime, so I'll just show you what they look like  in several views taken in the kitchen with flash.

I bought and tried out a package of Knitter's Pride Karbonz carbon-fiber double-pointed needles.   My hands didn't like them once I was using them (old hands with some arthritis--I guess they're pickier than I realized.)   So if someone's crazy about that brand and kind, and wants a package of 5 of them, size 5 US, they're up for grabs.  Free to ( Read more... )

I now have two pairs of striped shorty socks with the same frame (rolled top, short leg, heel, toe) but very different stripe patterns.  The tale of these two pairs was partly told in the last entry, but it goes like this.  The original idea, because I had quite a bit of blue, red, and yellow leftover yarn, was to make socks in the colors I ( Read more... )

So finally the socks I first named Circus Socks (intending them to be the colors used in Ringling Bros. circus ads) and now named Rainbow Socks, were finished today, except for weaving in the stripe ends, which can happen on the train.

The physical Wall I hit back in April affected everything I was trying to do, including knitting.   Last year I was often able to knit while sick, but by March I was making many more mistakes when trying to knit while sick--or even in the brief respites between things.  So the attempt to start a new pair of short socks toward the end of April ( Read more... )

When I started knitting socks, using worsted-weight yarn, I used size 5 US needles.  I knew my mother had used size 4s to make the socks she made me, but I found it easier to see what I was doing with size 5s.   I created the pattern for those socks on my feet (trying the socks on repeatedly, and correcting from pair to pair until, with #4, I had ( Read more... )
