Yarn redux

Jan 21, 2012 23:13

We once again have a guest room. Yarn has been sorted, re-sorted, and sorted away into drawers and bins. Labels have been affixed. And I have a lot of yarn. Much of it has been gifted to me (which is how I ended up with a lot of teapots as well, but that's another story) for which I am grateful.

I now know that I am particularly fond of worsted weight yarn -- I have enough yarn for size 8 needles to stuff a trunk. Mark was, perhaps, a little appalled. So I suppose I had better knit a sweater -- something that will use up quite a bite of yarn -- as opposed to the cowl I finished yesterday, or the one I finished tonight. Items that use up a skein to a skein and a half are just not going to make a dent.

Sometime, I really ought to sort the remains of my grandmother's, mother's, and my sewing boxes. They desperately need tidying. All those spools of thread and buttons and pins and needles mixed in like cats and dogs. I still have my grandmother's sock egg and her sock darning wools. (I use them for sewing up turkey every holiday, it's great for that. She used it the same way, too.) Does anyone still darn socks?

And let's not forget the books, which need a culling...But I think I'll get back to writing tomorrow.
