I mostly hated Last King too. My parents and D and I all saw it together, and no one really loved it. Yes, great performances. But double-yes, Eurocentrism. My mom and I especially were like, is this guy (white guy) supposed to be sympathetic? I think he is (supposed to be), but NO.

He is, which is that much more strange. And I also don't like movies based on real people that use fiction. And this one goes above and beyond with that.

I own the great debaters on dvd and still haven't watched it.

My friend Raymond wanted me to watch BSM. The title alone makes me say "no thank you". bad enough it sounds like a porn title.

I own Michael Clayton too and liked it.

I think you'll like The Great Debaters. I only have like one problem with it and I won't spoil it for you by telling you. Generally it's a nice film. I'm tempted to buy it too.

That's because it is porn!! It's some dude acting out all his "taboo" fantasies and wet dreams and calling it deep. THAT shit also offends me. The fact that when I see the creators talking about it (in the features and commentary) they sound as if they think they made some kind of classic piece of cinema. when really they made bad porn that is more offensive than anything I've ever seen before. And porn is offensive by default most times.

Hands down the most offensive movie I've seen in YEARS. That shit offended me in every possible way I can be offended. It offended me as a fuckin air breather. And Sam Jackson needs to be tarred and feathered. He really was the personification of an Old Negro Spiritual. No movie he makes nor any humanitarian effort he does will ever make up for that shit. He could reform the education system, personally finance a recovery program for the American economic crisis and cure AIDS and I'd still be like "but he starred in Black Snake Moan, son!" It was that bad.
