This is the most on point thing I have ever read. But I think he neglected to mention that the "white meets black" epidemic goes farther than cop movies. The culture shock "genre" in general has been tapped out.
"Bringing Down the House" now where have I seen this before? Oh now I remember.
"Houseguest" Only Queen Latifah's character was played by Sinbad.
Do screenwriters actually believe they are making groundbreaking, innovative scripts? Or are they just following the previous recipe hoping to ride the coattails of the movie that came out just before that one of the same vein? Like the "love knows no colors" movies. Newsflash, people don't need some boring, predictable, melodramatic movie to inform them that love goes beyond race. Second newsflash Shakespeare did the "love knows no colors" script centuries ago with "Othello" before you were cranking out sorry carbon copies of it. And he surprisingly didn't focus on race nearly as much as we are in the twentieth century. This new movie
"Honey" with Jessica Alba. Is it "new?" Or is it the sequel to
"Save The Last Dance"? I wasn't interested when Julia Stiles' nondancing ass starred in it, so what makes you think I want to see it now?
Let's not forget
"The Last Samurai." Though the white man's initial purpose was to fight the native people of [insert ethnicity here] he ends up saving them. Let me save all of you 7-10 bucks now (not including popcorn). Tom Cruise comes along and somehow becomes friends with the people. He quickly adjusts to their customs and becomes an even better samurai than those who've been practicing their entire lives! He beds one of the women who looks the most white. Despite them all being apprehensive about the union initially, they grow to love him after he saves their entire race. Can we say
"Dances With Wolves"? Sure we can.
I thought only television shows were supposed to have repeats. Does anyone in Hollywood have an original bone in their body? Black movies too (especially black movies).
"The Wood",
"The Brothers",
"The Best Man" all spell out to The Same Damn Movie!! Not that I don't enjoy looking at Morris Chestnut's face (and other parts), but must I see him in the same role too?
Black movies in general can be broken down into about three/four categories.
The Break Up Movie: The couple that is either oppositely attracted or a perfect match go through a break that is usually routine, but this time it's "serious."
The Thug Movie: ....Self-explanatory.
The Player Movie: ....Also self-explanatory. However for some reason these movies tend to take form in a "How To" manner. Some sort of movies "Idiot's Guide to being a Player."
And of course!!! The muthafuckin Wedding Movie: Which is normally combined with a piece of one of the other types. Like the couple broke up just before the wedding. The player finally settles down and gets married. Or the thug gets married after he had a fight with his player girlfriend. When will it end?
Well slightly off topic, I saw Tupac Resurrection the other night and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Now I can't listen to "Keep Ya Head Up" w/o tearing up. And I honestly feel like I "miss" this man that I've never met.
