Just one more semi-rant and it'll be nothing but sunshine, lollipops and rainbows from now on. lol (yeah right)
Today I've fully realized that I have a serious bias against security guards. I've always known I didn't like them, but now all of the reasons why I don't like them is completely coming into focus.
It just hit me today as I'm walking into Shepard Hall (where I have my music course). Normally I just sashay right on it, but today public safety (who I usu. don't even notice to my left) says the infamous words "Miss, do you have your ID?" I haphazardly scrounged for my wallet and took it out without as much as looking is his direction. (A purposeful decision I always make when asked. As if to defiantly say "yeah, I'm taking it out, but I'm still showing you no respect." I doubt any of them really catch on to that though lol) He then says "you need to get that stamped." Meaning I have to get that little sticker so that they know I paid my bill this semester. *gasp* Heaven forbid I sneak into the school and try to learn for free! Cane me! Or maybe I might be a terrorist sneaking in to bomb CCNY in the name of Allah. :o/ At that moment was when I realized I can't stand security guards. I just wanted to run out and buy dude a sign that says "My job is important!" or "I am somebody!" I'm thinking, son.... chill out. It's just a sticker, no bigger than that little tippy section of my pinky. Life will go on.
So that's my first reason, they're bored. Who wouldn't be? They sit around and basically do nothing for hours on end. I guess I'd be exerting my "power" and trying desperately to prove to myself and others that my job is important by emphasizing every little, insignificant point that I could too.
My other reason for not liking them is that it seems as though damn near everyone (in my network of people) is becoming one. I just see it as an easy way out. People think it's a
"good job" (lawd help me and this good job bullshit) so they're all running out to be one. I just see it as too much of an easy way out. It pays *well enough* so people think it's a "good job" and they don't try to do... well... do better. There's so many ways that people can contribute to this world. Being a security guard just, ugh, I dunno. I'd just like to see people try for something more. It's almost like they're convinced that that's all they can do. Just sit behind a desk getting overly excited that they have the authority to ask someone to sign a book or to pull out an ID card.
But I digress...
