Gai and Neji || here we are again

Neji sighed in frustration, rubbing his eyes as he was pulled from his sleep by the sound of someone tearing around in the hallways like some kind of maniac. As a shinobi it was hard enough for him to sleep during the day with the sounds of people moving around him. The floors creaked, windows rattled, and most of his neighbors weren't as considerate as Hinata about trying to keep the noise levels down.

Then of course, there was work itself. It wasn't the job, patrolling the outer wall of the city, that was so bad. That was more inane then anything else. But some nights, like last night, where the creatures on the other side seemed to be more active, the job would become almost maddening. The sounds of them out there, moving around in the dark. Grunting. Breathing. The low, guttural noises as if they're trying to communicate. Not to mention the sickening, slobbering crunch of them when they'd find something to feed on... the ones that made you wonder what exactly it is they have to feed on, unless they turn on each other

She led the way, walking a bit quicker than she normally would, unconsciously compensating for her much shorter legs and the fact Gai had much, much more energy than her. Once he knew the way himself, Hinata was sure he would sprint off ahead of her... even call it a race, like the times Neji had told her about.

She opened the door quietly, sighing a bit as their roommates tore around as usual even though her cousin was most likely trying to sleep. She was reluctant to wake him, but seeing a familiar face would definitely put him in higher spirits, right?

The future clan head stopped in front of his door and gave a tentative knock. "Nejinii-san? I'm sorry for waking you, but..."

But this knocking thing had no meaning for one of Konoha's proud green beasts -- especially one with a mission this urgent. It didn't even matter that the knob was stuck or something; one mighty twist took care of that problem. With a blinding smile of gratitude for Hinata, Gai sprang past her and into the indicated room, rubbing his eyes -- it was the dark, or dust, or something, probably, that was making them sting like that.

.."Neji? NEJI, IS THAT YOU?"

He had been just about to answer her when the sound of splintering wood filled the air, indicating his door had just been breeched. Without a second of thought Neji sprang from the mattress, Byakugan activated and chakra already gathering at his fingertips as he prepared to jyuken the living hell out of the intruder. Side effects be damned, he wasn't about to allow anything to happen to himself or his cousin.

But as he crouched there in nothing but his boxers, body low and arms wide in a defensive stance, he found himself dumbstruck at the sight of the man before him.
