Of course I only choose to break my livejournal silence for updating events of utmost importance, and today is one of those.
I just saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and it was INCREDIBLE. By far the best movie, although I could be slightly biased since the book was not my favorite of the series - they condensed the story, naturally, and they had to change things to fit the tightened storyline, but I think they did a VERY clever job in adjusting it. Also, the acting has improved so much, and this movie actually feels really and truly like a "catch-your-eye" MOVIE. It's funny; it has a lot of hilarious remarks that seem to be true on the ways of boys and girls and their general interaction difficulties at the age of 14. However, it is balanced wonderfully by the intensity of the scarier scenes - friends who did not know much about the movies or the books were surprised to see this kind of movie when they were expecting a "kiddie film". Honestly, I think we all need to accept that these books are not only good for children. I could go on for days about all the details of the movie, but I won't.
However, I will discuss the AWESOME day yesterday leading up to it. It is just a known thing around here that I cannot help but be addicted to harry potter, and if you're not careful, I will go on and on about it. Well, due to this movie, I have made many new friends in IV and everywhere, lol, meeting up with other fans who like to ramble for days about anything and everything HP. Also, my amazing closest friends who did not have anything to do with HP before were willing to watch the movies so they could enjoy the midnight showing with me - and the greatest thing was, they truly did get interested, which makes me so pleased. =) After all was said and done, we had a small crowd covering the theater. Me, Haley, Kristen, Alex, Megan, Michelle, Natalie, Lindsey, other Kristen, Megan's friend, Kevin, Corey, Nikki, Boofie, Martha, Candace, Graham, Tony, Leigh, Bekah, and Sara were all there... 21 people. wow, crazy. And we had a lot of IV friends who headed to the theater in Mayfair. There's nothing like a midnight showing...
There's also nothing like a Harry Potter party, which Meg definitely had after IV. Her house was all decked out - SO CREATIVE!! - snitches, butterbeer, quidditch scene on the wall, sirius black posters, the list goes on... Hay and I got there and I had her take picture after picture. It was great. Then we headed back to Kev's and... it brings a smile to my face to remember it... they remembered my half birthday and surprised me with a harry potter cake! ahh overwhelming, although of course when they sang happy birthday I got tears in my eyes... that song is just too embarrassing. I like this idea of celebrating half birthdays for those of us whose birthdays are in summer. es muy divertido.
All in all, it was wonderful. amazing. The movie was great and i got to talk to other fanatics about it - funny thing is, most everybody had gone. you'd be surprised how many college students at least partially like harry potter. nothing to be ashamed of, really. Although the addiction is insane... i'm very happy. No, I don't really care that I failed my spanish test today due to exhaustion... these are the times that you remember best, and it was all worth it. Not just the movie, but the friend time and the excitement that came out of it all. I love that. ^_^
And now I end on a promotional note... go see the movie, it is wonderful.
