Actually asked Joe if we wanted a new lease or if we wanted to go month-to-month for a while.

He and Joe have quite a bit in common. For starters, it turns out their dads grew up together. We lived in New Orleans for nine years before ending up back in Jersey, where Joe grew up. Bill (the new landlord, not to be confused with the father, father-in-law and brother-in-law) lived in Austin for nine years and is back in Jersey where he grew up.
Bill has a three legged dog named 'Lucky.'
It's so cliche, I LOVE it.
I can't wait for the dog to get here so I can spoil the hell out of him with treats and such.
I love other peoples' dogs.
