It's bovine!

So. I'm sick. Or getting sick. Or something. I woke up fine this morning but I've been fighting off a sore throat for the past few hours and it's just getting worse. This really sucks because the flu and hardcore colds are going around and I don't want to get sick. It would be different if I were still working at Unitrans with my 90 hours of sick pay beckoning to me and 10 to 100 other people available to do my shifts for me, but now I can't afford to get sick. /sigh

For Thanksgiving this year my plans were to stay home but my friend Ayn offered a trip to Visalia to spend time with her family and Tim instead, and I took her up on it. At first I was hesitant because I didn't want to spend 2.5 days exhausting myself socially, but I figured I would probably have fun if I went so ... I went. It was a lot of fun. Ayn's family was great and hanging out with Tim and Ayn was awesome. There was lots of turkey to be had, stuffins to nom on, and a lot of nice people to meet. I also made my first zooarchaeological find, which was awesome. While climbing some rocks, myself, Tim, and Ayn came across some bones stuffed between boulders. After picking up a few I realized they were bovine remains. It quickly became obvious that most of the skeletal remains were right there so we all went about collecting them. Unfortunately the skull was missing, as were all the toes, and smaller forelimb and hindlimb bones. After we spent about 20 mins collecting all of the bones (which were in GREAT condition) we reconstructed the skeleton. It was a young cow, somewhere between 24-30 months based on dentition. Pictures? Voila:

Our bovine calf. I shall call him ... Skelly.

Pile of bones!

Anyway, it was a real neat find. And it was cool to put my anthroplogical knowledge to use. Whee!
