[Aiba Masaki] Grazia 05.2012 English translation
In this issue of Grazia magazine, Aiba talks about personal life, Arashi, and the newest member of the Aiba clan: his baby niece. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! :)

This day, we cover his first appearance on this magazine. With a rough-looking outfit, for some reason, he looks immensely curious about the snacks the studio provided.
What's this? A macaroon? This is trendy huh. Though I'd probably prefer takoyaki. (laughs)
He's known for being honest without putting on a show. Aiba Masaki definitely has an innate lovable character. Perhaps one of his charming points is that he's willing to learn whatever the circumstance may be.
My family consists of my parents and my younger brother. Ever since I was a kid, my parents were always busy managing the restaurant. Because of that, I was always asked whether I was lonely, but that's not the case. On Saturday afternoons when I can come back early from school, I always looked forward being with my younger brother, ordering and eating our favorite food. Even the staff in the restaurant would take care of us. We would hire a bus and go skiing with everyone.....I truly have lots of good memories.
He was brought up by his parents with free will. His personality, according to his mother, resembles his father.
Whenever I have a restaurant that I'm particularly addicted to, I'd always end up ordering food from that same restaurant. I can't do that. In that way, I resemble my dad. That's why the two of us go drink together, having the same drinking snack. When my mom sees us like that, she'd always say "You two are funny." and then laugh. Come to think of it, it seems like my dad recently bought something called Home Bakery where you can make your own homemade bread. "Though it's baking, I'm addicted to it." he said. He takes it into the kitchen, bakes bread, and serves it to the catering everyday. It's like a family flower shop. (laughs)
I got along better with my brother when I was in my 20's. He's now working as a chef at my parents' restaurant. He once invited me and made me a dish that was very delicious. When we were young, we played together at the kitchen, and we were always scolded. And now, we're boiling nabe at that same kitchen.....somehow that left a deep impression on me. As the years go by, I get older, and I feel that the circumstances surrounding my family also changed.
It's been a long time since he became independent from his family. He has Arashi members whom he spends more time with than his family. That being the case, Arashi's existence also feels like family to him.
We each have different personalities and hobbies, to the extent that we probably wouldn't belong in the same clique if we all met in school. Nevertheless, I really have fun when it's us five. We always have silly conversations at the dressing room. For example, Sho-chan says "What shall we eat at the catering?". Nino always talks about games. Even if I don't ask for it, that guy buys games for me. Well I guess it's amusing. And also, if things aren't going well, I can count on MatsuJun. "Matsumoto drugstore" usually has everything, so it really helps. Riidaa's the one I go out and drink with most of the time. On our previous tour, we had the chance to go to places, and I was sitting beside Riidaa in the plane. From the time of departure until arrival, the two of us chatted nonstop. Lately I've been interested in fishing, so I wanna go with him next time.
Having his second time in a starring role in the upcoming drama entitled “Mikeneko Holmes no Suiri”, he currently leads a hectic life.
I play a coward, good-for-nothing police detective who has fear of heights, women, and ghosts. A drama with a mix of both comical scenes and classic problem-solving, I'll be glad if I can give enjoyment through both.
And recently, a precious member has been added to his family. His brother's family welcomed a baby girl. Touching on the subject, he showed us a firm smile.
She's very cute! She's barely a year old so she still can't speak. At times I find myself talking to her, saying "Yo~shi, yoshi, yoshi..". On New Year's Day every year, all of our relatives gather at our grandmother's house. This year, there were two strollers lined up at the entrance way, one for my niece and another for my male cousin's baby. When I saw that, I deeply thought that we are blessed. A baby can be noisy as he or she cries. Even so, that very sound, the sound of a baby crying, is also the sound of a blessing everyone can hear. It really is good being with family, I felt refreshed.
For the first time, he felt an overwhelming happiness, a newfound "love without compensation".
My brother sends me lots of e-mails with pictures of the baby to the point that I have to tell him to stop (laughs). But somehow I think it's good that my brother's becoming a doting parent. He pours a lot of love into it, and I think I also want him to raise the child properly. My niece is getting bigger, and it'll be more fun when we can finally chat. At what age she will finally be able to speak, I wonder. What will she call me? Don't call me "ojichan". If you call me that, I won't turn around and look. I definitely won't. (laughs)
