1. What do you make of Mickey in this episode? Why does he reject the Doctor's offer to travel? Mickey has had a pretty shit time of it. I mean, he was suspected of murdering his girlfriend, but he couldn't really defend himself. He knows where Rose is, but he'd sound like a nutter if he said that she went into a blue box with a strange man and then they both disappeared. So he has to keep his mouth shut about what happened to her while at the same time being held in suspicion of her murder. I do love that he actually get a chance to prove his usefulness in his episode. But I think in the end, it really is just too much for Mickey. He's not ready to leave with the Doctor at this point in time.
2. What about Rose in this episode? How does she handle her relationships with Jackie and Mickey? How committed do you think she is to this new life with the Doctor and how does that impact her relationships and her life back on Earth?I love that Rose gets her Tardis key in this episode. I think that this two-parter for her is all about

Just thinking this up, maybe he felt kind of uncomfortable around Jackie after the incident with her in her bathrobe and such. I'm sure that was quite awkward for the Doctor, and he must have had a hard time with it. And it must be weird, always observing from above and suddenly being asked to do the ordinary things like have tea. Petty things.
Tbh that was probably my least favourite Doctor-and-Rose moment, because it really feels like THE ONE TIME where he failed the most at treating her like an equal. At least when he sends her away, dickish as it is, he's just trying to keep her safe. This is just him being a douche. YOU COULDN'T HANG AROUND WHILE SHE ATE DINNER, DOCTOR? REALLY? YOU HAD TO LEAVE RIGHT AWAY. YOU HAVE A GODDAMN TIME MACHINE.
It does set up nicely the contrast with Ten in TCI, but it still makes me side-eye Nine a lot.
I think one of the reasons Jackie's very human and imperfect perspective is not shown is because there are no parents. Oh wait, we saw Amy's parents for about three minutes. Never Rory's. But it just makes the show so much more real and just including a more imperfect person would make Moffat's episodes so much better.
Maybe there's something we don't know yet. But they never made it anywhere near clear as to whether or not her parents disappeared. They never even mentioned them again. Maybe she forgot them, or maybe she is just very easy with forgetting her parents. But if there's no explanation, that's some pretty sloppy writing.
1. What do you make of Mickey in this episode? Why does he reject the Doctor's offer to travel? I think Mickey didn't travel because of his bad experience with him. The Doctor shows up, and Rose is gone. And I'm pretty sure he was quite traumatized after what he went through in the Rose episode.
2. What about Rose in this episode? How does she handle her relationships with Jackie and Mickey? How committed do you think she is to this new life with the Doctor and how does that impact her relationships and her life back on Earth? I think she's more committed to the Doctor than her mom and Mickey right now, but I bet that after traveling until she was about 40 she'd want to settle down. With the Doctor, of course.
3. What do you think of Jackie in this episode? Was she right to call the hotline? How does she handle everything that happens with Rose this episode?Jackie's daughter disappeared with this man. She could have been brainwashed or had her soul sucked out or anything. After a year of being gone, it was very believable that she

#3 -- Jackie slapping the Doctor is, IMHO, the single greatest moment in TV history ever EVER.
#4 -- I know the Slitheen are silly, but I still kinda like them. "And then we'll finish with this INSANE planet for good!" = LOL
Other thoughts -- I really like the details that they put into the background, like all the drawings of the Doctor/TARDIS/Rose and UFO conspiracy books in Mickey's apartment, or the fact that there are a pile of Skittles on the desk next to the Super-Important-Red-Telephone. (Or are those the British equivalent of Skittles?)
I also like the scene with BB!Rose telling Harriet that the Slitheen must have some sort of technology hidden around Downing Street, and then she starts looking into drawers and closets to find it (and consequently finding the Prime Minister's body). She's totally trying to imitate the Doctor (and failing), and it's all kinds of cute. I love how she just dives right into it all.
