Since i know some of you were interested, i'll update you on my two radio station situations:
WNUR - My bitching paid off! Well, sort of. I'm the play-by-play man for the Michigan-NU game here on Feb. 26! It's our only remaining home Big Ten game that we're announcing, so that's clutch. Almost as clutch as TJ Parker. I talked with one of the sports directors after our meeting on Tuesday. His comments: they understand why i am frustrated, and why i feel like i deserve more time on the air. But he says they looked through the assignments (which i did as well) and nobody has done more than 1 game yet in the Big Ten. This is true, so i can't really complain too much. But when you add in the non-conference games, some people have been on up to four broadcasts, and me on two. Oh well, i really am not upset anymore. And i understand that i've done a women's road trip, and some in-studio work, which has been great experience. And with the Michigan game, I'm on an important broadcast, and i have even more opportunities coming up. I'm heading to Champaign on Wednesday for the women's game at Illinois, etc.
Chicago Public Radio - I went in to CPR on Monday to see some of my friends from the summer/beg for a job. Here's the deal: They are re-structuring the newsroom around May or June, right when i'd start working there. This means they may be looking to add some people. This is good. Very good. The news director told me she'd love to have me back. This is good. Very good. The only potential drawback? The current news director, Cate, won't be in charge once the overhaul is complete. They are bringing in a new managing editor from Ann Arbor (GO BLUE!) Sorry, couldn't help myself. If she doesn't bring in her own people, i'm golden, like Ponyboy (Ahh, an Outsiders reference!) Anyway, cross your fingers for me!
That's all for now. Derin and I are heading to Champaign tomorrow for a wheelchair basketball tourney that a bunch of my friends are in. I can't wait! And yes, that's a trip to Champaign twice in 5 days for you scoring at home. And if you see Spindlah, remind him i could kick his ass at Guillotine. Bye.
