Today i caught a gopher in my back yard. they eat my desired plants, so he was an undesirable. so i put him in a bucket, put the bucket (with a towel inside for padding/hiding, and a few sow thistle roots to munch on, if he so desired) on my bike, and rode the bike to my local wildlife sanctuary.i took him out to the meadow, and after sitting there, staring at me for awhile (as if waiting for me to explain why i brought him there), he started wandering about. i followed him around (so he wouldn't get targeted by a hawk, while out in the open) until he finally found an old squirrel hole. he disappeared for a few minutes, popped his head out, as if in dismissal, and disappeared for good. i've seen gophers specifically target thistles in my yard because they have nice, jucy tap roots, so i think mr gopher may help to control the invasive thistle population in the sanctuary.
