Christmas season leaves me frustrated and somewhat angsty. I mean, there's a lot of great stuff in the holiday, but i'm still bothered by it. I enjoy the the feeling it hopes to bring out. i like the randomness of bringing a tree into your house and decoreating it... i like the concept of "presents" as a way of showing that you care for people. i love people individualizing their houses and yards with lights and such things, and seeing decorated houses ALWAYS makes me a little happier. i like having reasons to get together with my family, and this holiday is a good one for that.
unfortunately, much like haloween, there are a number of drawbacks about christmas. i don't like the waste of buying trees to be thrown away, the energy waste of the lights, the rampant consumerism, and the ritualization of present-giving, but those annoyances are small. what i really hate about christmas is its core.
the whole christian core that has formed the holiday (very few people visualize the holiday for it's truer and older pagan roots) is bulshit. i'm not about celebrate because someone was nailed to a cross 2-thousand years ago for supposed sins that i did not commit. sure, he said some good things about treating one anothyr better, and that i like, but his importance has certanly been overrated. I bet this is how Jewish people feel, except they only know it from the outside, for the most part.
every year, there should be a mas for some other great person that has benefited past or current society. next year, we should have an Eienstinmas! i think christ has certainly had more than his share of time in the spotlight. though i might not be that great in any way, if christ can have 2 thousand years of celebrations, even i should get to have one...
