So today Kate took me to Halters Cycles to pick up the bike I ordered earlier in the week. I picked a Giant Cypress LX. This is what is called a "comfort" bike and will allow me to get out of the house and get myself to local places such as the food store, produce market, hair cuts etc etc. The bikes design is that of a mountain bike frake, an upright seating position and tires that are road bike styled but maintain a size for more luxury in the ride. The bike has a spring loaded shock seat and front shock absorbers which make it, as claimed, a comfort ride. This is ideal for me as bumps even in the car cause my stomach to get jumbled when it's in one of its moods.
I went on my first ride today. We'll start off by saying that I am not back to the strength I was before I got sick; and even that is below where I'd like to be. I was winded easily and found it hard to make my return trip. In time I'll become more and more used to riding and this will get easier. I got heckled by some teenage shit-heads while riding. I caught up with them again at a stop light and they began their routine again. So I paused my ride to share my thoughts with them. They decided to roll up their windows. I guess they disagreed with my impression of their general intelligence, how they'd turn out in the future and a few other choice words I shared with them.
Tomorrow morning I intend to go out for another ride; this time staying off main roadways. I need to get my endurance to where I can use the bike to get to the places I need to go and after tonights ride I know I am not ready to venture too far yet. The produce market is doable; which is good as there is a bagel shop, a pizza shop and a Chinese shop all within the same distance. But the food store is a bit further and requires crossing a major highway.
