Geez. Horrible. Thank god for Perm accounts, eh?
I work for the Texas State Library and Archives Commission as a Linux Systems Analyst now. It's contract, curretly, but they've already extended the contract about a month, and I submitted my info for perm consideration.
Being a Systems Analyst is kinda neat. It's like all the trappings of being sysadmin, but none of the responsibility. You are the guy they come to, but then you tell other people how they're supposed to do things. I still get projects given to me to produce stuff on occasion, but I'm mostly used as a huge font of information like a modern Oracle. It's pretty fun.
On top of that, working for a Library -- especially the STATE Library -- is amusing. I don't think many people realize how interconnected these bad boys are. And working for the one that runs all the other libraries is very... meta library. Like we check out locations, not books. It almost works like that. If I do get on Perm, this place will be amazing when it is finished being renovated in the fall. It's already pretty amazing, but I can't wait to see it with books and the stacks full again. Also, the stacks here are fucking huge, and I'm going to try to see if I can swing a visit to the Archives at some point. There's just so much information here. It could be a very good or a very bad place for me to work, depending on how you look at it. I'll let you all know when I become the Merovingian, the largest trafficer in information in this Matrix.
