Hi guys, this post comes to you in much the same format as the last one I made! I have a few pics from C2E2 and I also finally got a sewing machine. It's much easier than I thought it would be. I'm in need of a pattern to alter though!
I will soon be writing up my con report and I'll edit with a link, but basically I went on Saturday only. We met up with
ladyfiresprite and her friends,
michaela0823 and a friend, and our friend Patrick. We had a whole team TARDIS without planning it!
The Enthusiasts were there doing free portrait photography so we went and got a few taken.
That dress was made from the $2/yd fabric I stumbled upon at Hancock Fabrics and half of it was hand sewn, the other half finished once I got my machine. The whole costume only cost me $16 because I wasn't going to spend much on something that's not really the right fabric to begin with. As a result, I found hot pink fake snakeskin flat shoes at walmart for $4.50 and they looked great once spray painted red, but they were out to murder me through loss of blood! I had to stop and wipe up all of the blood twice before abandoning them and walking around without them while inside.
This con was exactly a month after Gally so it was great to see Taylor again!
Now to the next part. I rewatched Mark of the Rani and my mind sort of fixated on those puffy sleeves.
I laid in bed thinking about how to make them, so I grabbed some discount fabric, some canvas to line the yellow parts in to make them stiffer, and made this.
I made the panels too long. I went to the fabric store just browsing and found the fabric I think I'm going to use. I came home and made another test sleeve.
This time I think the panels were too short; there's not enough puff when my arms are down! Also the yellow stripe between the pink ones on the band is too wide but that's because I wasn't paying attention.
I also will need to eventually make the dress and an underskirt, so If you know of any good patterns for those too that would be great.
So while I think I've got the sleeves down, I have been having a really hard time finding a pattern to start with for the body, so in summary:
- What even is the proper term for that yellow top?
- Do you have pattern suggestions or suggestions on where to look for one?
- Any other hints or tips?
