Looking forward to seeing you at Regen! I shall keep an eye out for an Eleven and say 'hi'. I will be the very lost looking female Ten wandering up to all the Elevens and asking 'are you that bloke off the forum?'

If you can find a clearance sale, the best women's jacket pattern for your purposes will be McCall's 7051. 2nd choice would be Butterick 6998.
If you can find them on eBay, offer a Buy It Now for no more than $3.99US if unused.
As to trousers, use this pattern (it's free!): http://m-sewing.com/patterns-catalog/women/jackets/tail-coat-for-women.html
Much luck!

I would actually blend your methods of taking in.
Slightly lengthen the darts, but also pivot the side-joining panels @ the waistline of the pattern, bringing in the sides the appropriate # of inches divided by the total # of panels. Then repivot the pattern back along the original lines halfway up the armhole. Try this on muslin first to get the knack of it.
