When i first decided to do Troughton, i made up my mind that we would tie an actual bow tie. The reason was simple. I wanted to learn to tie a bow tie--which is a skill that i basically think men should have. Yes, I do! And the reason is simple. Tieing a tie, is something that really isn''t hard. And it is a skill needed in the real world. YES, it is.
So, first and formost without slapping too many people in the face, if you have avoided learning to tie a bow tie, for a character that wears a tie, shame on you.
If you don't know how to tie a single windsor on a regular tie! SHAME on you! I'm not joking! A double windsor is a different matter. A single windsor is a distinctive job skill that you must have. Sorry, learn to do it, the internet has illustrations, which i follow and guess what, you can too.
Now, once again, shame on you.
Anyway, i was in the thrift store on Thursday and a man who had to be at least 40 came up to me and said, "Do you know how to tie a tie?"
At first, i wanted to say, "Go home to Cuddlyville!" but i didn't. i said sure, and i tied a thrift tie for him, in the way my father taught me to tie a tie, single windsor. I swear, on my mother the man took the tie off, thanked me, and went to purchase it, still tied, i assume so he wouldn't have to tie it again later. And i felt pretty bad for him. I did. Now it might have been than he didn't have someone to teach him. That is indeed possible, and i assume since it was a black tie, that he went off to go to a funeral. Who knows?
Men, learn to tie a tie. Which brings me to bow ties! Tiening them can be hard. The first shots of Matt Smith I saw, i thought that it might be possible to duplicate his costume, using my wardrobe. I present to you the results. But also, i present to you, that i bought a bow tie, a nice looking one too, and i learned to tie it, which took me a good 20 minutes, but i did it, And i feel GOOD about that, and i've tied a friend troughton's tie like 16 times. Issues with the outfit, His coat is a lighter brown. He has elbow pads. i love my coat, so probably won't be doing that. Also, it is all about the hair. As it always is with the Doctor.
