Okay so I've decided to post all the updates we've done on our costumes in one major post excepting the only brand new costume in the bunch (the Master) which will get it's own entry. All this info will be added to their respective breakdowns for centralizing of information.
So for Gallifrey One 20 to Life we made several major and minor upgrades to our Ten Doctors...
More info and pics
The First Doctor:
One got the biggest Doctor overhaul because we had to toss the first version together from thrift store finds within 3 weeks. The only pieces we recycled into the current costume are: The Scarf, The Monocle, the pants, and the right hand dark ring.
(The old wig- Ack!)
We started by replacing the old Wig with a bald cap and a new lace wig in more of a light blond tone. This new wig was an alternate we got at the Western costume Sale for only $1 last summer. Our One cosplayer's wife spent several weeks going over make-up tests with latex and fake eye bags to help create the aged Hartnell look. In the end the make-up was lighten up and the eye bags were ditched.

We also replaced the coat with one that was more midnight blue in tone to help offset against the cloak. This was found at It's a Wrap for $30. The lapels were rounded, extra buttons added to create the 12 button front look (courtesy of Jo-Ann), the bottom edges were rounded slightly and the sleeves taken in.

Then we replaced the shirt with a wingtip collar shirt from Anothony's Formal Wear for $10. The original post for this is found here:
http://community.livejournal.com/dw_cosplay/225507.html#cutid1
We replaced the tie using a midnight blue satin (which according to a lot of color pictures is it's true color). This was leftover from a previous fabric batch our one cosplayer used for a 1st version of his Batman costume. Certainly beats a ribbon!

Next was the vest. We searched high and low for a better fabric match - lucking out incredibly finding a pretty close match in the fabric district of Los Angeles with an upholstry fabric for $4 per yard. Our One cosplayer's wife knocked this together out of a basic vest pattern and screengrabs mimicking the 4 front pockets (which ARE functional!).
(Happy to show off his fine vest! - Photo by Vickie Sebring)
Then I scored a better looking/colored pinky ring at Junk For Joy in Burbank for $8.
Our One cosplayer provided his own black dress shoes but we added canvas spats dyed brown in order to mimic the cloth top two-tone 'country boot' Hartnell often wore.
Then we re-ordered the Ambassador Hat from the seller where I got the first (and now lost) one from.
We finally scored a better cloak through an ebay seller who turned out to be a Who fan and was gracious in taking the time to source a good velvet and fabric for the cape. She even adjusted the chain clasp to look more screen accurate. Kudos to her big time. Sadly due to the time rush we never got a full picture with new cloak, hat and scarf on our cosplayer. Oh well, for next time.
Last was the trademark spiral cane. Another ebay seller find. Original post about this here:

The Third Doctor:
The only upgrade made here was the wig. We felt the last one was too short and didn't have enough body. It'll eek you by for Season 7 Three but not Season 8. we're pretty happy with the new one- scored from Outfitter Wigs in Hollywood.

The Fourth Doctor:
Technically has a new hat. When I took my custom hat in for a slight rebashing and distressing, they ended up ruining it (TWICE). So they had to order a whole new hat body in each time and they finally got it right. Albeit it's still on the stiff side. But it has the taller crown and a nice "Robot" shape which I'm happy with.

New Jelly Babies - 4 bags (always). Managed to give every one of them out over the con.

New Scarf - Which sadly wasn't seen in time for Gallifrey. I had a fantastic looking new scarf commissioned and it was completed in time but the knitter ran into health issues and only just managed to post it to me this week. Pics when I get it.
The Fifth Doctor:
We trimmed the hat brim down by 1/2 an inch through Baron Hats- it's always looked too long to me. They pushed the deadline *again* but we got it back in the nick of time. It's technically too short for a Davison brim but it helps the crown look taller like the original so the proportions even out to the eye once it's worn.

We finally added the trademark red socks! There were some so-so options at Macy's and through sporting good sites but we got our from here:

I just had the sleeves and body altered to fit our cosplayer better and be more form fitting. For those of you who got a sweater and feel they are too baggy - any tailor can fix this for you.
(Altered Sleeve!)
(Original unaltered sleeve)
New Shirt. In an effort to see if I could beat the Magnoli price (and failing!) I bought a white dress shirt from Target with no breast pocket and no collar buttons. I bought some red cotton from F&S Fabrics for $5 and had a seamstress add the trim where needed.
I also replaced the buttons with pure white shirt buttons for better contrast. Finally thanks to Kingfish on the DWF- I had a graphic made of Davison's various Question marks, picked the one that screamed "Season 19!" to me and took it to Mr. Stitch here in Sherman Oaks to have it embroidered on the collar tips. Voila!

New Wig - We weren't 100% happy with last summer's wig. So we got a new one in a slightly darker color tone and tighter curls. We left some length on it to help hide our cosplayer's hair but since ours is Season 23 style it works.
(New Wig and New shirt being sporting together - Photo by Vickie Sebring)
New Shirt- I gave Magnoli Clothiers a test run by commissioning a brand new six shirt from them. It came out great overall except.. the Question Marks are too small. It's fixable but still a disappointment that even with a graphic file and several reference photos that thier embroiderers couldn't get the size right. I have since returned the shirt for the collar re-do- we'll see how it turns out.
New Umbrella- we scored a multi-colored umbrella from Target for $18. It's not perfect but rolled up it does the job. (it's got a straight instead of curved handle and it's on the tall side - having 8 colors instead of 4 and being double canopied to boot). Although thanks to redsocksedona I now have found the proper classic single canopy, 4 tone multi-color Six umbrella on ebay- an upgrading I will go!
Seventh Doctor:
New Wrist Watch - I found a vintage gold barrel shaped watch on ebay for $10 , added a black strap and there you go. Granted looking at it, I think McCoy's was a retro styled *1980's* watch due to the mild size difference.
New Pocket Watch and Chain: I scored a cheap gold Hunter pocket watch (still has the wrong numerals... something to modify to the digital version later I guess or replace) and a silver chain with the proper 'belt hook' for the lapel. Previously I had used the half-hunter Eight watch as a substitute! The chain though is still too loose inlinkage. So I took the gold chain I got from a previous watch which is the proper 'corded' metal chain and sprayed it silver. Voila!
On Friday I kept the Watch on the chain, for Sat and variety I put the newly acquired McCoy era TARDIS key on the chain. Speaking of - New McCoy Era TARDIS Key!- Courtesy of ebay!
I was aiming for the Season 25 version which also meant:
New Tie: Found a nice blue and red paisley tie on ebay for $15. Though Macy's had a handful of decent matches in the $25-$50 range.
New Scarf: The scarf needed to be more red and cream in tone. Finding a match for this paisley was REALLY hard. Finally stumbled on a 'close enough' fabric at Jo-Anns (in cotton again, virtually nothing close to be found in silk). I had this put together the same as the last one.
From my Seven breakdown: I've recently (as of 1/9/09) been looking into doing a Season 25 variant of Seven and that means a new scarf.... so far the best matches I've found (and this *is* a tricky one to find!) are some cotton/silk fabrics at International Silk and Woolen, some so-so options also in cotton at F&S fabrics, a few cotton options (better colors though) at Jo-Ann (all of these run about $8-$10 per yard, except the silk which runs about twice that) and... getting desperate- I've found some paisley shawls and blouses at Macy's (under the Echo Design and Charter Club brands) that are okay matches too.
After comparing about 6 swatches I had I decided the overall best match for read, pattern and color was a cotton fabric from Jo-Ann. It's slightly more cream than red but it does the job well for now. It's a cotton, runs $6.99 per yard and info is:
Red paisley
Calico
43-44"
Jo-Ann SKU# 123-5688
New Jacket in Light Grey: I took the plunge and ordered one of the Season 25 Seven jackets from Baron Boutique and it came out rather fantastic- they got all the details right and it looks
smashing!
New Tracking Doohickey - For fun I made the antennae Ball tracker that McCoy used in Battlefield. I took my old car antenna (the remnant of an accident at a car wash many many years ago) and placed it in a cheap flashlight handle using superglue and expanding hard-set foam. Capped it a cut-out bottom of a solo (aka restaurant salsa cup) and sprayed it all an even black. Then I took a styrofoam ball, coated it in resin, and superglued it onto the tip of the antenna. I painted the ball red. voila! Ready to find some nuclear missile convoys.
(This top finish made possible by a salsa cup)
(The power of paint and resin)
(Yes it extends)
While I was at it- I repainted our umbrella tip red to match the handle.
Eighth Doctor:
Thanks to the watchful eye of Darcrider we realized we had the wrong shoes (ours has laces, McGann's were slip-on. We didn't have time to replace these yet BUT...
New Shirt buttons/cuff links- We did replace the buttons and cuff links with the proper pearl inlay with silver tone instead of the black and gold we previously had. Thanks again to darcrider for the detail catch.
Dacrider spotted a good ebayer who still has these. You can get the same if not similar cuff links here:

New Jumper: Our Eight Cosplayer finally scored a good maroon colored V-Neck jumper at Nordstrom.
(With Rose- Unquiet Dead Style - Photo by Vickie Sebring)
New Wristwatch: after a lot of searching I took the plunge on the cheapest yet most accurate looking Nine Watch - The Rotary Gents Leather Strap Sterling Silver Case GS21222/01. I like it so much I no wear it as my everyday watch!
(Rotary Gents strap!)
(Original!)
Revenge Cyberman:
New Connectors: We took away 90% of the velcro, replaced most of the side tubes with a larger size and sewed on electronic wire "C" clamps to connect the tubes more securely (yet allow them to be removed when the suit has to come off!) Works like a charm. The only tube issues I had was one of the remaining Velcro tubes did drop off and the body side tubes tended to bend oddly but they held on after several bystander brushes and a guy hugging me!
New Belt: I hated the fact my original belt wasn't sectional or terribly wide. Thanks to my good friend Alexi, a new one was crafted out of L-200 foam, using insulating 1" diameter tubes for the edges (which were cut in half and barge glued over the top/bottom for the trim) and put over the old belt to secure it back onto the suit. The back section was riveted on over the thin leather piece we crafted as the belt joint/velcro connector to make it look more uniform and hide the join.
New Chest Unit: This was the major piece I wanted to upgrade. A proper chest unit! Alexi helped me here again, crafting the base again out of L-200 foam. I used a '67 Chevy model kit for the fake circuitry and super glued it on the side panels. Then three sections of plexigalss were cut and rounded/sanded down and riveted over the sides. The third sheet was painted silver for opaqueness and glued to the middle section. We added some dark mesh-looking sandpaper over this and created the middle 'grill'. Then we added the same jacket buttons (sanded down to more of a flat and mate finish) to the right side panel and added some plastic wire 9like those used to hold toys in their packages) for the button wiring. Then we cut off the bottom of a cup, made a resin copy to give it more solidity and glued it in place at the bottom for the 'lens.' We added a circle of plexiglass over this. Last touch, I glued together 5 strip of 3 silver bolts each and glued them on top of the center peice. We also re-outfitted the chest and the shirt piece with hooks and loops to more easily (yet securely) fasten and unfasten the Chest Unit to the suit.

Helmet tweak: re-enforced the mini-fans inside the helmet while replaceing the dark blue gel at the eyes (which fogged up last time) with a stretched piece of black nylon. My visibility is not quite as good but at least I won't fog up again!

I'm already looking into a few latex/resin options on upgrading the knee joints and shoulder/back cups but that will have to wait.
Eleventh Doctor
As a last touch for a comedy skit we picked up a Matt Smith Styled wig, courtesy again of Outfitter Wigs. It did the job but the styling wasn't quite right. Perhaps with some more tweaking (and less saliva from Minervamoon) this can be improved if we ever continue down the Eleven path (and he keeps the hair...)
Last there was the Deadly Assassin Pratt Master but that's.... for another post.
