Vortex manipulator HALP!
Many thanks to those of you out there who responded to my plea for help on River's "Impossible Astronaut" accessories. I've managed to requisition an old purse that I think will work quite well for the time being, and I have an old flashlight I plan on painting to add to the ensemble. I even found a cheap plastic gun which, though not great, will serve me for the holiday season until I start prepping for (crossing my fingers) Dragon*Con.
I am, however, stuck as to what to do about her vortex manipulator. I think having one would be splendid and really help folks to recognize the character I'm aiming for. But I've never tried my hand at making one, and I was wondering whether anyone here had any suggestions about construction. Has anyone made one? I seem to remember a post a while back, but I couldn't find a link in the tags panel. I have some lovely brown, "weathered"-looking vinyl that would suit, but I'm lost as to how to begin.

And since I feel bad about such a whingy, begging entry, here's a picture of my "River hair." Thoughts? I know I need to pouf it up and perhaps take the curling iron to it, but I did just get a haircut and that was the direct aftermath...
