OK, must be out of my mind. And, as usual, late to the party! :)
I'm combining the bodice from Simplicity 2247 with the skirt/train from Butterick 5462, pin-fitting like mad and praying that I don't shred the fabric. I've got probably 7 yards of gabardine (draped nicely & was in the budget!), a yard or two of sheer fabric for sleeves, a pair of knock-off Christians, and a "Roaring 20's honey blonde wig" because going blonde is out of the question when your hair is as dark as mine. Shoes were scored on eBay for a better color, 'cause DSW had a decent Guess pair that were most definitely RED.
Haunting the local thrift shops has paid off with two potential handbags. We dug up two "good enough" toy guns and a pair of shades that I need to touch up. The fun part? Trying to find a beaded trim for the neckline. Working on it, though.
Photos to follow!
I've got a brand-new supply of fabric & 2.5 yards of this ribbon.... After doing the pirate thing tonight, it'll be time to focus 100% on this! It'd be nice to get this done in time to go to the Way Station's Halloween party on the 29th, but hey, one thing at a time.
1 Nov: Soooo.... the front of the skirt is assembled, as is the back of the skirt. I've not yet attached them to each other because I'm fed up with trying to pin-fit on myself. In an attempt to save myself from wasting time, energy, fabric and sanity, a duct-tape dummy is in the works.
I'm also now reconsidering the sleeve fabric. Under the lights at home, it's appearing to be more of a crystal chiffon. I like it, but then again, I'm ambivalent about being SA for my first outfit. I'm OK with "good enough" for this one. If the costume budget increases... well, that's a whole 'nother story. :)
