What I Did on my Summer Vacation

I'm a little late in posting about the two major trips I took in 2011, but better late than never, right?  The first major trip was to Germany for two weeks in July.  We actually started the trip in Switzerland, went up the Rhine, saw castles and grapes and towns, oh my!

These were from Switzerland, where we got an awesome view of the mountains and a traditional lunch.  The only thing missing was the cowbells, the alphorn and the St. Bernards with the kegs!

We then started our German vacation in.... France! We visited the Alsace region of France, including Strasbourg.  Since the region has gone back and forth between French and German control for a long time, there was plenty of German influence. What ended up being really cool was being in France on Bastile Day, though getting back to our ship was a bit of a challenge since the roads were blocked off for the evening's fireworks!

Strasbourg Cathedral was a truly imposing structure - we walked around a corner and it literally filled your vision!  Okay, enough of the French part of the German vacation! Up next (and I promise it won't be several months later) will be the German part of my German vacation!  Stay tuned!!
