Texas for Thanksgiving

I had a fabulous Thanksgiving in Texas this year. Erich and I went to Austin for a night and then also went to a Texans games with my dad and sister. Man, how I miss Austin!! I am fond of Houston, because that is where I spent my highschool years and that is wear my mom, dad and brother live. However, I didn't realize until trip how Houston lacks color!! I hate it...everything is tan or brown or camel...any of those tones. Austin on the other hand is colorful and creative....Erich and I spent a lot of time in South Austin and have been throwing the idea around of buying a house in that area.

When talking to my parents about homes, I had told them that I couldn't live in another Kingwood. I can't handle the track housing with the same brick tone and layout. I feel like I am stuck in some weird twilight zone when I see that. South Austin reminds me a lot of where I live in Southern California. My street is lined with homes from the 60's and 70's of all different shapes, sizes and colors. I understand that brick is a necessity when living in parts of the country that are hot and humid, but damn, paint those shutters something other than cream or tan! And change the colors of those rocks that line your gardens. I am describing my parents home in Kingwood, but in their defense, they are older and are comfortable. I cannot disagree with living in comfort, but when you're young and able....change it up a bit...damn!!

I wish I could drop a paint bucket ontop of Houston...geez.. Anyways....back to Austin...it was just so nice seeing my old hood and showing my husband around. One thing that I was so happy to see was all the mid century modern furniture stores in Austin. I love how people are living a more minimal life style and it makes me happy to see more of these stores popping up. Oh thats another thing...our current house is maybe 800 square feet. Yes, I know that is unfathomable when living in the state of Texas. I told my parents that I wouldn't want a house that much bigger when moving to Texas...they were floored! Its so much easier living small...anyways, I hope to move there soon. When my sister finishes grad school at Stanford she will be moving back to Austin. Thats in about 3 years so, maybe Erich and I will take off at that same time. I am so excited when thinking of the possibilities!
