doloris

we stopped at a super wal-mart in nowheresville, missouri yesterday on our trek to fayetteville, arkansas. we were told that we were making pretty good time on the road, so instead of stopping again for dinner, we would just push through this last leg and get into town about 7 or 8. so, my friend erin and i decided that we should get 'dinnerish" food to take on the bus. beginning with pre-cooked mac and cheese (with ketchup no less...i couldn't believe i liked it), we then proceeded to the hot food line they had in the back of the fine establishment. a large black girl behind the counter saw us looking at the food and said," now don't ya'll walk by like you don't want nonna dis--i see ya." she recommended the honey barbeque chicken (which was most delicious) and i convinced erin to try some fried okra- she had never had fried okra!! i never got the girl's name; erin and i decided to name her doloris. she insisted on calling us "mama" and "papa" while we were ordering......"aight mama, now papa you won' somma dis fried okra? i know you lookin' at it......isss goooood." hahahahahah, i love you doloris. i wish there were more people in the world that were just that instantly outgoing and fun. she made my day....her and the ridiculously good food erin and i stuffed into our faces on the bus soon thereafter.
