I have been taken to task for slighting the Great State of Louisiana by portraying a corrupt and truly nasty piece of work Senator as from that state in my Beyond the Call story. ( Read more )
Some people clearly need to get over themselves, and are obviously too dense to tell the difference between fiction which this is and reality, I'm english therefore I'm allowed to be rude as I come from a place where all our politisiones are dodgy and corrupt, just look out our recent election, what a screw up!
Please know that the respondent was polite and said clearly in the message I received that it was my story, fiction and I could do as I pleased. My purpose in this post is to apologize to any in the community I might have offended, as I did to the respondent in a private message.
I think it shows what a wonderful writer you are and a humble person to regognize someone elses feelings. Our work in this outlet is meant to give a voice to our inner creativity and not offend or alienate anyone who deems our work worth enjoying. That said, I am honored to be your fellow writer. I take huge creative lisence when I write, NEVER intending to make anyone uncomfortable when they read my work. Thank you for being the kind of writer and person I like to think we all aspire to be! Being from Louisiana myself, I can certainly tell you without a doubt that some of our politicians are crooked. Some of them more so than others, but it's a fact. That's what politicians do. Like some of the others have said, this story is a work of pure fiction. A damn good one, at that. No real person was called out or slandered, thus, in my opinion, you have nothing to apologize for.
Also, I'm quite pleased that you think our accents are sexy. ;)
I DO think your accents are sexy. They melt me when I hear them. Please understand that my apology is not grounded so much in what I wrote and more in that I made a reader who I respect uncomfortable, even if momentarily. It was for the way I made them feel that made me want to say I was sorry.
I'm from North Carolina and with Jesse Helms in our history there is no room here to talk about anyone else's Senators. *G* So IMHO you can use this state to your heart's content. The accent isn't as sultry, but we have corruption to spare, just look at the current indictment on our last Governor. And no, before anyone gets bent, I don't think it's the least bit funny, but laughter is always preferrable to screaming. Your story is wonderful, duwinter, and this Southerner, for one, is totally behind you.
