Meryl as Evita?!

To ad on to silentrevyrie’s previous post, did you know that Meryl was actually going to play Eva Peron in the Evita movie, but for some banal reason, the filming of the movie was postponed? By the time it was finally scheduled to actually start filming, Meryl was unavailable and after along period of searching, they cast Madonna instead. Don’t ( Read more... )

I should add - they are making Sunset Boulevard the musical version and Glenn Close and Meryl are on the top of the contender list.

Glenn Close had said yes initially but now there is talk of Meryl possibly taking over. This is all here-say but from pretty legit sources.

I loved Glenn as Norma Desmond on Broadway but some fangirl in me wants to hear Meryl say, "We didn't need words in those days - we had FACES."

Meryl would be totally brilliant as Norma Desmond. I know there was talk a while back of making the movie with Glenn in the role, but I hadn't heard anything about Meryl possibly doing it instead.

I'm with you on this, as much as I love Glenn, my inner fangirl is willing them to cast Meryl instead.

I am so glad to see that others think Meryl would kill as Norma. I love Glenn Close and I think she has a beautiful voice but I have never thought that her voice was right for "Sunset." I've seen/heard Patti LuPone, Glenn, Betty Buckley and Elaine Paige all play Norma Desmond and while I think Betty was hands down the best, I know that outside of the theatre world she does not have the box office appeal that a Hollywood star has. I think there have been as many rumored Norma's as there were Evita's but after seeing her in "Mamma Mia!" I thought to myself, "Dear god I hope Andrew Lloyd Webber thinks to cast Meryl as Norma!" Glenn was good but Meryl would be amazing.

I love Glenn Close too. I can always remember hearing her sing for the first time and being really surprised at how good she is - probably because I'd only seen her in Fatal Attraction before that ( ... )

Oh wow. I love both those ladies. Have been listening to Glenn's renditions of 'With One Look' and 'As if We Never Said Goodbye' quite a bit recently. Ive been trying to find a recording of her Broadway showing, but all I can find is a youtube of the Tonys. Either would be wonderful in the role, but maybe Im pulling slightly towards Glenn because Ive seen so little of her recently (I don't get cable, no Damages for me! :P ), and Id love to hear more of her voice.
But like I said, im good with either.
