Chinese Fortune

Life is always interesting and eventful... and here I was hoping this month would be boring.
Yesterday was full of suprises. Went grocery shopping and had the bank tell us that weavedancer's account was $350 overdrawn, came home to our neighbor seething because of a story that's way too long to go into, and shortly thereafter our friend TJ showed up weeping because she'd lost her court appeal against her dogs; another long story that sums to her neighbor trying to get four friendly and gentle dogs put down. Got TJ a couple smokes and calmed down, got Tony breathing evenly and talking to his best friend again and then chilled watching movies all evening.
Then we went to the bank this morning. Heh. So the last few weeks, we've been kinda broke. (Sorry raventhourne, that's why we hadn't called about sushi yet.) Weavedancer had just started a new job at the beginning of June, we weren't sure how much she was actually getting paid, finances were transitional from our vacation and we just hadn't been scrutinizing the details. Two weeks ago, her account went a ways overdrafted and we figured it was just an error on our part and that everything would be balanced when she got paid again. That went in on Friday. Got the landlord to delay the rent check a few days, so that was outstanding but there should still be a couple hundred left over after that for groceries, right? Heh. Get to the store, check the balance and we're $350 in the hole... So we went to the bank this morning... to find out that we're now some $800 in the hole. It seems that someone in Valencia, Mexico has been routinely pulling money out of her account over the last three weeks... to the grand total of $918.21, not counting bank fees. She hadn't lost the card and had done only secured online transactions. My supposition is that someone stole the number while we were on vacation, which should be easy to track as we mostly used my card or cash. This makes many things MUCH clearer, a fraud claim has been filed, a new card is on the way and things are getting worked out. Everything should be covered by the bank's insurance and we should get our money back. (knock on wood... alot) If that's the case, we are SO going to sushi.
Thanks life, now can we go back to boring for a little bit???
