The theme
Well, it seems the theme of the week is data recovery.
Got a call from a friend (Mina) last night about 7pm. Seems her boss had accidentally deleted some important files off. They were on a network share... meaning they skipped past the "Recycle Bin" and went straight into the ether, do not collect $200. And, of course, the last backup was "a couple months ago". Damsels in distress!
So I clad my feet and donned my armour to face the cruel elements. (Said otherwise, I put on sneakers, sweater and leather jacket and walked 30' from house to car in the drizzle.) After taking a moment to figure out their setup (and teaching them how to remote access their own server), I get things sorted and broken down. A trip to the office, a bit of file restore, and a voila... it's recovered and usable. The ladies were given a brief lecture in the value of regular backups before I slipped back into the darkness.
