Angela!!!! (aka
waku_waku ) *major screaming here*
BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!
How wise are you now? (Note that I didn't ask how 'old' you are!)
And. And. And. I would've made some lame graphics, but......waaaahhhhhh! I was doing something! And in lieu of the birthday graphics I was supposed to make for you, I'll just post one that will come close (THIS, my dear, was what I was working on when I failed making your birthday graphic. LUV YOU!!!)
....Am I forgiven? *puppy eyes*
I'll pimp this now.
Download the hardsubs here. And I realized my blunder only too late coz I didn't add in
litany_sh 's name on the credits for her hard work in cutting/editing the 3hour video to the 14 minutes that involved the RnK cast. Mitan! Tell me how to make up for that???
Ok. Segue.
Drama talk.
>Ryusei no Kizuna. Ep 1.
I repeat. Just how ecstatic am I to see Nino acting again????
Just to make things clearer. For those who don't know yet, I was Nino-baited into the Arashi fandom. I'm some kind of a Clint-Eastwood-the-filmmaker-fan so I guess it's safe to say that Dirty Harry made my day by introducing me to the rainbow-filled sparkling world that has Arashi in it.
Nino remains, to this day, one of my favorite thespians. He's the kind of actor who has versatility written all over him. This hamburger hands can simply do anything.
But I was supposed to talk about the drama first, wasn't I? Sorry.
To avoid spoilers, the first episode provides the setting that will propel the plot forward. We see the kids and that incident 14 years ago that practically turned them into the adults that they are now. We are introduced to the other characters that MAY or MAY NOT be significant in the grand scheme of things. The siblings' vow was enough to encapsulate how promising this drama would be.
"When we're adults, let's look for the criminal. And the three of us will kill him....no matter how long (how many years) it will take, we will find him. Do not count on shooting stars..."
Already we see Kudo Kankuro's writing. For those who have seen his other scriptwriting efforts, especially TIGER & DRAGON and IKEBUKURO WEST GATE PARK, you'll know what I'm talking about. It's in the atmosphere of the scenes, the dialogue, the exchange of lines, and simply the themes being spoken of.
The scene at the internet cafe was hilarious. The three leads, Nino, Ryo and Erika have a lot of chemistry going on that acting together might be akin to something that just flows naturally. "I'm still a virgin." LOLZ! Check out the looks of relief on Koichi and Taisuke's faces when Shizuna said that!!!!
The actors. YAY.
Nino IS Nino. He won't be given the rave reviews in Hollywood for nothing, people. He has a quiet & strong presence here. As the eldest brother (and the first witness to their parents' murder) he feels the weight of responsibility even more. As Ariake Koichi, he brings across that 'older brother' feeling quite clearly, when he was scolding Taisuke for his easygoing ways, when he was panicking over Shizuna's choice of new job, when he went out of his way to make sure Shizuna gets payback. I just love him.
Funny though, that shot when he was seated on the steps on a side street, peeking above his laptop in his spectacles (he's hot wearing specs. just sayin') I felt like it was a major throwback to STAND UP!!! Naughty, naughty.
Ryo. I've always thought Ryo was one of the stronger actors of his generation, especially in Johnny's. Yes. I think he can dance and prance around Yamapi in acting. (Bite me.) And he'll leave the overrated Jin in the dust when in a scene together (i'm just imagining!). It was like a breath of fresh air, seeing Ryo as the energetic and ultra-hyped up, not to mention talkative Taisuke. I guess I was used to seeing him in more somber roles where he did nothing but brood (and be evil *coughlastfriendscough*. I am so looking forward to seeing him more in this drama.
And did I mention Ryo as a host TOTALLY WINS???? Except for the hair, he WINS.
Erika. I did say before that this might be the role that would totally win me over on her side, right? Haha! I think I'm right. I am loving her synergy with Oniichan and Tai-nii!!!
...I think the general hostility Erika gets from most fans stemmed from the fact that she played that bitchy role in Hana Yori Dango 2, getting in between everyone's favorite couple Domyouji and Makino. (Come to think of it, Toma also tried to get between the two, but he's getting a lotta love. Tee-hee!! Biased!!) And in Nobuta wo Produce, everyone was on Nobuta's side. And in Liar Game, Erika was simply too stupid for me to like her enough. Kind heart, but really gullibly stupid. In Code Blue she was just...steely/harsh.
Here, in RnK, I think I'm going to really like her.
And props to the kids who played the younger siblings, especially the young Shizuna. Major thumbs-up! She got Erika's flighty attitude that early!
Ok...what else....Hmm....Nino cooking. Yay. (Ok. I'm NOT gonna make this a Nino-flail post.)
Kaname Jun's character starts out quite hilarious. XDD But I think he might be saying more, doing more than he actually is. There's just...something about his character. Hmmm.
Now I can't wait to see Nakashima Mika turn Nino in for a loop. I wonder if she appears next ep already? Since her character does not appear on the original novel and she was just written in by Kudo Kankuro, I have high expectations for her character.
This has gotten long. But before I end.....
NINO!!! In an apron!! With a pan!!! In glasses!!!! Hyperventilating over CONDOMS!!!
....I did say no Nino-flailing, right?
Bite me.
