Somebody. Anesthesize me.

Jul 11, 2008 10:02

I'm in so much pain right now, and I hate that it is not the physical type.

I'm the most optimistic and silver-lining-behind-the-clouds type of person I know, so this bothers me to no end.

I just had to let that out.

I think I might tread on not a few toes with this post but....

Who among you watched it and thought, "Grey's Anatomy"?

Four interns. Rivals, in a sense. A bit green, but raring and daring to get a piece of the action. Now all they need is the sex and fidelity issues then we're all set.

Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad thing. I actually enjoyed the first ep (FYI, IRYU - both seasons - is like two of my top favorite jdramas of all time) and is looking forward to the second ep (which is now out, but seeing as LS is speedy with the hardsubs, will wait for that one instead).

I guess the spin on this medical drama is its focus on Heli(copter) Doctors and the tension of on-site medical procedures. Tense, indeed, and I liked the pacing of those scenes.

As for the performances. I like the supporting cast, they are a strong bunch. For the main leads....

I'm not the biggest YamaPi fan. I like him, but I don't REALLY like him, get my drift? He's not the worst actor, in my opinion, but he's not the best, either. Not even one of the better ones, if I may be blunt. But he does have presence, I grant that.

I only wish he knew how to make full use of it. I think he's given good roles but...he ought to do SOMETHING with them, know what I mean? Bring something new to the table. But I guess it doesn't help that he is being given roles that are mainly cool and standoffish while looking ultra-suave. Then again, DO SOMETHING with it.

Take your cue from KimuTaku. He has played a myriad of roles and in each one, manages to inject a bit of something special. Pain in Pride, naivete in Long Vacation, frustration in Beautiful Life...I can go on and on.

I don't want to get tired of YamaPi. And I don't want to watch a new drama of his and go, "oh, he acted the very same way in this-or-that drama." I want him to ACT, not BE YamaPi.

I haven't seen enough of Aragaki Yui but I look forward to seeing how her character develops in this one. As for Erika Toda, not her biggest fan either, but I think she can deliver. ( I loathed her in HYD2 and wanted to strangle her in Liar Game. That must mean she was doing something right with those characters.) I just could not help but be amused that her good looks are again used as a major factor in her role this time. Danger of stereo-typing?

I've finally finished taiyou no kisetsu.

I knew it could not end very well. Not everything is that forgiving.

Tackey was amazing on this one (Pi should at least take his cue from this guy). His character, Tatsuya was totally blackened by his greed and desire for power and status. He was too blinded with that longing for those things that he was willing to throw away everything that truly made sense.

I liked how they made use of running (Tatsuya is a runner) as a constant object of analogy throughout the story. He feels tormented, he runs. He feels determined, he runs. When in pain, he runs. He knows he's running away from those he cannot handle, and he knows he's running towards something uncertain, but he still runs anyway. That's a perfect way to describe how his lust for power has completely turned him into someone he doesn't really want to be, but thinks he HAS to be.

Spoiler, so quit reading this part if you haven't seen it yet. Not that it'll be much of a spoiler, though.

The resolution of the story was bittersweet, IMO. Not everything turned out as he planned, and realizations come in late. As I've said, not everything is THAT forgiving. One always gets what he deserves.

The limp girl pianist who seems to be the one shining thing in Tatsuya's miserable existence played her role in an understated fashion. I liked her for not trying to be as radiant as she was. Her quiet grace and simplicity convinced me that she could actually capture Tatsuya's heart.

I was wracking my brains as to where I've seen her before. And then it hit me. She was Chika, Domoto Tsuyoshi and Oguri Shun's sister in Summer Snow, the one impregnated by Imai Tsubasa. Lolz. Small world.

I checked my MU account and WHOA. The Gakkou e Ikou: Arashi Pranks subbed video had now 1354 downloads. And that's just on MU alone. (MF have many advocates, I know.)

And among those 1354 MU downloads, I'm sure as hell someone upped it to a streaming site. May they rot in Ohno-less hell.
