Well its been a long time...there is a lot of catching up to do. So Wien was amazing!! Huge palaces!! We saw where Archduke Franz Ferdinand lived, before he was assassinated(which is what started WWI). We also took a tour of the royal palace. It was amazing inside!! I think I liked it better than Amsterdam because it wasn't as cramped. There were wide streets and there was actually space to move around. I noticed the same thing in Germany (but I guess that is what happens when your country is destroyed and you have to rebuild it). Wien has a really good public transportation system so we rode a lot of subways which was fun. I had some apple strudel and schnitzel. As well as some other yummy food that I can't remember how to spell. I was really glad that Tom (which is who I went with) spoke German because English is definitely less prevalent than it is over here. He also used to live in Wien so he kinda knew his way around.
Bratislava (which is in Slovakia, which used to be part of Czechoslovakia), wasn't at bad as I had imagined. Things were definitely cheaper (they are not on the Euro yet). But there were a lot of nice cars and expensive shops too. But some of the things, such as the main shopping street, just didn't look very nice or well kept. We went to the castle which was cool.
I had my final last week. It went okay (I hope). It is weird here though because your final determines your whole grade for the class. I find out what I got in two weeks.
So after my final I headed out to Germany with my roommates. We stayed in my roommate Asli's place in Köln (Cologne). It is a very lively city. There are always so many people out walking around, shopping, eating. We went to the infamous Dom church, which was the only church not destroyed during the war in Köln. Mass was going on inside. It was in German, but I could kind of tell what was going on. They had an orchestra playing. It was really beautiful.
On Sunday we drove on the autobahn (no speed limit, don't worry Dad we didn't go fast) to Düsseldorf, which is like the Beverly Hills of Germany. There is one street called Avenue of the Kings which is where all of the expensive stores (Gucci, Prada) are. The weather was amazing!! And so were the local beers, although I like the Köln beer better than the Düsseldorf beer.
So yesterday was Halloween and as you can imagine, it's not really a big holiday here in Europe. Me and the Californians went to a club in Amterdam. It was in an old church so it was really cool inside. They played weird music though. Downstairs was lik hardcore techno and in the main room they played like monster mash type music (we were doing a lot of twisting). So I dressed up a police officer and the rest of us were mostly like funny, happy things, but everyone in the club was like a zombie or dracula or something scary or freaky or weird. I think the only people that celebrate Halloween in Amsterdam are like dark gothic people (for the most part). It was differnt because most of us were used to dressing up as something fun or cute. LOL. It was fun though. Very different from a typical Santa Barbara Halloween. Well I have some errands to run. Barcelona on Thursday!! Woo hoo!! Yo nesescito practicar mi espanol para espana.
PS. I posted some new pics. They are on my new yahoo website though:
