If you were going to make a venn diagram for "gifts made by toddlers" and "not tacky" the overlap would not be the largest.

I've been trying to think about what to do for Xmas gifts for certain parties and maybe I've developed Stockholm syndrome but some of the ideas are looking pretty cute now.

I'm not going to link to any particular blog post here because a million people have done these and it's hard to tell who, if anyone online, was the original, but I want to do those upside-down handprint Santas where the fingers are the beard. Having looked at a bunch of people's, I think the key to make them cute and not bizarrely Christmas-in-R'lyeh-esque is NOT to outline each finger, but rather to outline by the tips so that you're outlining the beard. The indentation of the finger is still visible and it's still obvious that it's a handprint but it ends up much cuter.

I'd also like to do a footprint penguin--not as many people have done these as ornaments but as a print on paper it's very popular so if you're interested just Google.

Again, I think the key to making it look cuter is only to paint in the big toe and pinky toe, not the middle toes, so it's not some mutant five-legged penguin.

I was thinking I might do this as a craft surprise on a day that LB is here and he can give his to his dad. :)

I've thought about making them with cornstarch dough or purchased clay instead. The cornstarch dough is nicer looking but seems more fussy. I would hate to have my crafts crack or warp. Polymer clay or Model Magic isn't particularly expensive so maybe I should just go with that?

IDK, crafting is my weak spot. If I were the boss in a video game the hero would be chucking paintbrushes, mod podge and glitter glue at me.

I am a whiner. Insert whining here about how I don't want to do dishes, once again. I hate dishes. From now on we are eating an all raw, all standing-in-front-of-the-fridge diet.

We're going to have The Husband's cousin over twice next week to do mother's helper. In this case though it's going to be more like father's helper, as I'm going to take the kids out and he is going to help The Husband clean. Specifically to muck out the back office and do a round one clear out, as well as ready all the Christmas stuff.

I think there's a limit to how long you can keep 90s Apple computer products. My limit is about five minutes, but I have been silent up until now about a good quarter of one closet being taken up by that old Mac that looked like a gumdrop and similar "vintage" stuff. Even if we had all the space in the world, none of it has been so much as touched since we moved in (psychically I hear The Husband say "But that's just because I don't have TIME!"... and when will you have time, honey?), and we emphatically don't have all the space in the world. We live in a 2BR apartment. It is my hope that in the new year we can get ourselves into a 3 or 4BR townhouse via a co-op, but that still will not be a lot of space.

I know this is tough on The Husband because overwhelmingly this is HIS stuff I'm asking him to discard. Because I moved here from across the continent, obviously I only brought with me my most precious or needed possessions. Since moving here I've probably acquired some stuff I could stand to lose, but the lion's share of the sacrifice is going to be The Husband's. I know it's hard for him but I'm glad that he is finally willing to let some of it go.
