First, a bit of an eye roller.
"Ironically, the good education given to me by the Brothers of Mary taught me to think critically, and Catholicism just didn’t hold up very well to critical thinking." --from this op-ed
Oh really? You were taught critical thinking by the Brothers of Mary. It was a good education. Anyone similarly well-educated would see through Catholicism. For this education you have to thank... Catholics. Serious Catholics. Catholics who had devoted their LIVES to the Church, had taken vows to do so and disavowed secular recompense. So they must not have been good at critical thinking. Yet they were somehow good at TEACHING critical thinking?
This is not the first time I've heard the "har har my Catholic school education made me too smart for Catholicism har har because only an ignorant sheep would be Catholic amirite or amirite har har har" motif pushed forward (usually prefaced by "ironically" as it is here), and it never gets less stupid. I mean maybe nowadays you could somehow say it with a straight face because too many Catholic schools have many non-Catholic teachers, but when you're talking about the days when 99% of the teachers were religious sisters and brothers, it's just... idiotic.

So as I said in an earlier post, Pippa is super into the They Might Be Giants' song "Hot Dog!" In addition to being on the soundtrack of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, it's also on an album called Here Come the 123s. They also have albums called Here Come the ABCs and their latest children's album Here Comes Science.
So I was investigating these, and I discovered that the last one has a song called "Science is Real," with the following lyrics:Science is real from the Big Bang to DNA
Science is real from evolution to the Milky Way
I like the stories about angels, unicorns and elves
Now I like those stories as much as anybody else
But when I'm seeking knowledge either simple or abstract
The facts are with science
Just in case the song lyrics aren't clear enough, the song writer spelled it out in an interview in Wired: "The song freely acknowledges the Big Bang and evolution, and casually conflates angels with unicorns and elves-all of which might bug some anti-science, pro-angel folk.""
Got that? Pro-angel = anti-science. You can't believe in angels and the Big Bang! That's just ridiculous. Who could possibly ever think that someone could be religious and scientific, that's so idiotic. LOL fundy sheeple--
Oh, Msgr. Lemaître! Oh! Oops. I didn't see you there...
Oh? Um, we were just talking about how you can't be religious and believe in the Big Bang--
Um, yeah, I know that you are a Catholic priest and you were the first to propose the idea of the Big Bang--
Yes, I'll go to confession. *hangs head*
