the waiting game

Minor pregnancy issue: my test for Group B Strep came up positive, so I'm going to have to get an IV antibiotics treatment at the beginning of active labor/when my water breaks. Luckily, they can do that at home. I tell you what, midwife home births in Vancouver are pretty amazing. They can do IVs, injections, all that stuff. Basically the only ( Read more... )

I grew up in Mission! It's so weird to see someone randomly mention it on the internet. I guess I'll ask my mom about the snow when I call on Friday.

Congrats on all the baby stuff. You sound like you'll be a fantastic mother! Did you know Trevor Linden (aka the greatest Canuck ever) is a Catholic convert? I thought this might be relevant to your interests.

I have a couple of friends who just had their first babies, and both of them had the babies within a few days after the OMG DO THINGS urge and accompanying increased energy level hit.

Ha, with me, it's something that's been steadily increasing for a few weeks. It started out as a minor tendency to see dust bunnies and clutter everywhere and immediately feel the need to spring into action and fix it. But lately it's taking more homey turns. Like, organizing the bookshelves, and taping up all the greeting cards we've accumulated over the mantelpiece.

Either way, I need to wash, block, and send off your gift!

Wow - good luck with the homebirth. They don't even offer them (legally) in Pittsburgh. And to be on an IV (as I had to be, for pre-eclampsia), you HAVE to be at the hospital. They can't even do them at the birth centers.

I didn't wash any baby clothes at all. haha. As long as the two of you don't have sensitive skin issues, the baby will probably be fine too.

Definitely use this time to get wedding photo stuff finished! As soon as the baby's here, those are the ONLY pictures you will care about, trust me.

We're really fortunate to be in this area. They can do so much at home, and if I have to go to the hospital, it's literally a five minute car ride, and an ambulance can go even faster than that. So as far as medical issues go, I'm really confident that I will be safe giving birth at home.

No, they can't. Epidurals require an anesthesiologist.

I have such weird reactions to anesthesia that I wouldn't want to try it even in the hospital though. I have a friend who got an epidural but it didn't kick in until her baby was already out. I can totally see that happening to me.
