After Israel humiliated Joe Biden by announcing 1600 more houses on Occupied land, in East Jerusalem, coinciding with his visit to try and reinvigorate the “peace” process, Johann Hari argues that the Palestinians should declare independence. He opts for a two state solution. Many on the left tend to argue for a one state solution as the most equitable and just outcome. However, this is neither pragmatic nor realistic. How viable an independent Palestine would be right now if most of the Israeli settlements in the West Bank remained where they are is of course open to serious question.
