Last night turned out to be a great night. We headed into town at around 6pm, and were eventually sitting in the pub at around 7pm, Pravda, a cool Russian themed bar on Dublin's quays. While there, I asked the lads to predict what song they were going to play at midnight in the club later on. Nobody was too sure. I suspected they might play "Clocks" from Coldplay, as there are a couple of very good remixes of this excellent track around, and they were played during the summer in the club.
A few pints were had there, before we all made our way to Spirit, the dance club we had got tickets for. The place was actually not too packed or uncomfortable, which was good. We got a few more drinks in, and at around 11.30pm hit the dance floor to get ready for midnight, as the tunes were hotting up. After a brief countdown at midnight, and lots of shouting and roaring and hugging and kissing, the DJ dropped none other than a remix of "Clocks" from Coldplay (I AM the man!!), much to my delight.
The night progressed well. One of the highlights for me was hearing the DJ drop the original version of the mighty "Blue Monday" from New Order, followed by a remix of "Star Guitar" from The Chemical Brothers. At the end of "Star Guitar" I thought I heard a bit of the intro to one of my favourite tunes of all time, "Out of Control" from The Chemical Brothers. I was right, and it was fantastic to hear it, and the crowd in the club seemed to be right into it. Brilliant.
Later on they played a weird club mix of U2's "With Or Without You", but with a different, housey vocal. Not long after that, the DJ dropped the classic "Yeke Yeke", which made the crowd, including myself, so mad. Over "Yeke Yeke" the DJ mixed in "Sweet Dreams" from the Eurthmics, which sounded great.
The night finished up with a tune I hadn't heard in a long long time, "The Theme from S-Express".
The only low point of the night was at once stage a bouncher came over to me and asked me to step outside with him, and also brought two of my friends outside. He said that a girl had got her handbag robbed, and had picked us out as havin taken it. The bouncers searched us, but naturally found nothing, a case of mistaken identity. The bounchers were quite professional and courteous about it, and since it was a mistake gave us each a free drink at the bar. It was all still a bit unsettling though.
I think the club finished up around 4am, and headed to get a taxi home. However, there were massive lines of people waiting for taxis in O'Connell Street, so we went and got a NiteLink bus home instead. Took longer, but it was much cheaper than a cab.
A few friends came back to our gaff, and we cracked open a bottle of champagane that we got a present from one of our neighbours for Christmas. It was horrible stuff though!! A couple more beers were had then I headed for bed.
Just relaxing today, and taking it easy. Am back in work tomorrow, so it will be back to reality then.
