Dave and Kim are the only people at Sports Night with whom Dan will talk music, mainly because they’re the only ones who have any taste. This means that they were the only ones who understood why Dan was so appalled when Jeremy brought up the latest in Irish soccer news one slow Tuesday.
“I refuse to say that on air.”
“Dan, I know you hate soccer, but it’s the only story - ”
“I don’t care, Dana. This is about a good piece of music being butchered.”
Kim nodded. “He’s right, Dana,” as Dave shook his head. Dillon Me Softly?
AN for anyone who doesn't get it: "Killing Me Softly With His Song" is a song most notably performed by Roberta Flack (though the Fugees did a good cover of it in '96, which was the first time I heard the song. Give me a break; I was 9).
As for the soccer thing:
"In 2006 the song became a popular football chant with Irish soccer team Shelbourne F.C. with the lyrics changed to "Dillon Me Softly with His Song" regarding former defender Sean Dillon. The chant has since followed Dillon to his new club Dundee United F.C.."
