Sergeant Jeremy Anderson entered Dr. McKay’s main lab with more than a little trepidation. He had been called in for ATA light-switch duty, but he doubted that was it. It was past 20:00, and most guys got light switch duty in the morning. Add that to the fact that he had been pulled aside by both Ronon Dex and Colonel Sheppard earlier in the day, and it didn’t take a genius to figure out what was about to happen. “What Are Your Intentions: Part 3”
Sure enough, the lab was empty when Anderson arrived. It was dark outside, and the weird artificial lab lighting struck McKay’s features harshly, making him seem far more imposing than he normally would. The man did not look up from his laptop upon the sergeant’s entry. “Dr. McKay, you asked to -” McKay cut him off before he could finish his sentence.
“You’re seeing Teyla. I’m sure Ronon has already threatened you with violence and Sheppard has threatened you with violence and being sent back to Earth. And that’s fine. I’m sure if you hurt Teyla they will cause you severe pain. Which is silly, because Teyla’s more than capable of kicking your ass herself, but still. Pain. If you hurt Teyla, they will cause you pain, but I will make your life hell.”
“Dr. McKay, I -” Rodney held up his hand, halting the man’s speech.
“I control the temperature in your quarters. I control the water. I control the airflow. I control access to your quarters. I control this city. If you make Teyla unhappy, I will make you twice as unhappy. And if you hurt her, I could very easily kill you. You have the ATA gene; it would be no trouble at all to call you in here to activate a bomb. It would be a horrible accident, of course. I needed you to turn on the music box for the anthropologists, but I stepped out and you touched the wrong device and what a great tragedy. Keep that in mind, Sergeant.” At no point in his speech had the scientist looked up from his computer.
Sergeant Anderson swallowed. He’d heard McKay was annoying and arrogant and dismissive, but no one had hinted that the man was also violent and batshit insane. “Dr. McKay, are you really supposed to make threats like that?” The older man looked up then, and Anderson wished he hadn’t. He’d been on the receiving end of glares from the fathers/brothers/cousins/friends of the girls he’d dated before, but none had ever been this intense.
“Teyla is the closest thing I have to a sister in this galaxy. I’ve looked at your file, Sergeant; you have two younger sisters, correct?” Anderson nodded, not bothering to ask how the Head of Science had access to a military file. “Am I correct in assuming that you would make a similar speech to any man dating them?” Another nod. “And that you would mean it?” Any more nodding and the poor sergeant’s head would fall off. “Well, I mean it.” With that, McKay was done, turning back to his laptop. Anderson felt the physical force of his dismissal even before the scientist spoke. “That’ll be all, Sergeant.”
Anderson turned and walked woodenly out of the room. Once around the corner, he leaned against a wall to get his bearings. He closed his eyes and reached for his radio. “Teyla? You have one hell of a team, you know that?”

“Yes, Jeremy, I do.” Teyla stepped out of one of the supply closet, into Rodney’s main lab. “I will still see you tonight?” A pause. “I look forward to it as well.” Switching off her earpiece, she turned to her teammate. “Rodney, do you not think the death threats were a bit much?”
Rodney snorted. “Like you didn’t threaten to poison Katie when she and I started dating? A threat which was totally uncalled for by the way.”
“Well.” Teyla wasn’t looking at Rodney, suddenly very interested in something on the corner of his desk. “A woman must look out for her friends.” She looked up at Rodney when he grabbed her hand.
“And a man must do the same.” Teyla said nothing, simply smiled and bowed her head down to his. After a second of confusion Rodney saw what she intended and leaned forward as well, blushing. Their foreheads touched for a moment, and Rodney wished that Jeannie were there. At least I’m a good big brother to someone, he thought. Teyla pulled away and he settled himself back at his computer as she walked out the door.
