Just saw "Coup d'Etat," "Michael," and "Inferno" for the first time. Yes. I know. Bad
duskwings. I've been busy, and I kind of wasn't feeling the fandom love for a while. But I decided to try and revive it, and I think it worked. Because ... well, here's where I start in the spoilers:
OMGSQUEE! I loved all three of them.
"Coup d'Etat" was nice. I totally called Laden(?) being in league with the Genii all along, but I didn't call the double cross. (Or was it a triple cross? Not really sure.) It felt kind of oddly paced, to me, and it didn't really bring as much squee as the others. Still, the ending scene was nice. And everyone was very pretty. Teyla can wear that velvety collared number any time she likes. *rowr*
*is shallow*
Oh yes. And the quote: "That's Lieutenant-Colonel Errand Boy to you." *giggles*
"Michael," though. God. *pauses for a moment to contemplate* Just ... wow. I loved it. Sure, I wanted to stab Ronon with a rusty knife for ... well, pretty much the whole thing. So what if he turned out to be kind of right in the end? He practically forced Michael into it. The only outcome that he was willing to accept was Michael's reversion and ultimate death, and that's just not fair. He never gave Michael a chance.
Also, I kind of ship Teyla/Michael now. (In addition to Teyla/Ronon, Teyla/Rodney, Teyla/Beckett, Teyla/Lorne and a smattering of Teyla/Sora and Teyla/Elizabeth. Yes, I know, I'm fickle.) They just ... I found every single one of their interactions to be almost unbearably charged. Even -- no, especially that scene where he was controlling her actions and forcing her to release him from his restraints. It lost a little with the whole hostage situation, but it was totally back by the end of the episode.
Um. Interesting, though, that every single woman in the decision room (Kate, Teyla, Elizabeth) wanted to keep Michael alive and on the treatments. And all of the men but Beckett (who is, after all, a doctor) wanted to kill him. I'm not going to say anything about gender stereotyping, because all three women seemed to have a reason to keep him alive that wasn't just warm fuzzy female feelings, but it is interesting.
Finally, "Inferno." *loves* Okay, so the Manly Posturing kind of made me cringe. (Yes, it deserves capital letters. If you don't know why, you haven't seen the episode.) McKay was cute and funny, but John? Not so much. Still, I loved the scenes with Elizabeth. And the Teyla/Ronon stuff was just lovely. And ... well, the whole thing, really.
Although I am beginning to think that I don't actually like John very much. He's just so ... emotionless. I think that's why I liked "The Eye" -- because he really reached down deep inside and felt something. There are moments of that in "The Siege" and "Conversion," but other than that? I can't remember anything. Sure, he cracks jokes and flirts and such. But that's it. He never seems to be deeply angry, or deeply sad, or deeply upset. Sometimes he gets annoyed. That's about it.
I like my characters with emotions. Not wangst, but feeling. Something other than a smile and a joke to pass the time. Hotness alone just doesn't do it for me anymore. John needs to stop being a pretty face and start feeling, damn it!
Oops. I got all ranty. Sorry about that.
I would watch the finale, now, but I think it's time to sleep. Tomorrow, I have people to do and things to see ... or is that the other way around? :P
