ugh.
right, so, that cold i had a few weeks ago is back. as in, the exact same progression of sy,mptoms. which at least means i know i should be better by the weekend, but will have a horrible day tomorrow at work.
which of course, is also doing great things for my literature review progress.
though, i did get through a couple of books today, and found one i wanted to stab the author over. i mean, you can't really write a book on the "blogosphere" without A: referencing core texts on the internet and self-representation, B: looking at the comparison between online and RL personality/experience, or C: having ANY KIND OF RESPECT AT ALL FOR THE PEOPLE WHO WRITE THEM. as in, Mr. Michael Keren, blogs can in fact portray "in part or in full a fictional character," but so help you god if you really think they, "for all practical purposes ought to be treated as such", then you are missing the point, the point which all of that literature you've handily ignored affirms: online identities tend to be more connected to offline identities than often even those involved realize, and blogs portray this most clearly of all, being as they are in most cases personal diaries of everyday happenings, rather than fictionalized characters with no reference to the person behind the computer.
OOOH THIS GUY MAKES ME MAD.
grrr.
did i mention he also pretty much blames the internet for real-life escapism, apathy and melancholy? you heard it! the internet is the cause of modern dissassociation and alienation! all our problems are solved! thank you Mr. Not An Expert In The Internet.
oh, also, did i mention that because we blog we have no lives? yup. "Millions of individuals write their lives while giving up on living them". GRR.
...
oh good, google tells me i'm not alone in thinking this guy is a crock of shit. goody!
hah, okay, official favourite quote about this guys' view of the blogosphere, from the globeandmail.com: ""That's harsh," declared Arian Hopkins, 36, of Calgary, who has a spot on MySpace.com." XD
ooooh boy
www.bloggernews.net/14423interview/article says he didn't actually, uh, talk to any of the nine blogger he basically tears to pieces. mmmmmm unethical. i'm sorry, but even if they are published freely on the internet for anyone to see - does that make it ethical to publish a book ripping apart their motives and freely distributing their names and website addresses in print? yech. i really don't like this guy.
...sorry for the rantavalanche there, but this guy really grinds my gears. apparantly after publishing the book was to be used as a recommended textbook for one of his classes too... wow.
sucks for anyone in his class who blogged, because apparantly they have a serious addiction, no lives, are socially stunted and live entirely in a fantasy world.
(hey, does that sound to anyone else like what they used to say about D&D? or comics? or metal? they never learn...)
-_-'
other than that, i had a Guylian eater egg tonight mmmm. and Chris has bought my Ninjatown for my DS, coz it was cheap on the UK website he is getting Rock and 2 off... :D yay! tiny ninjas!
also sent off Roo's package today. :P should be there within the next two weeks! yay!
ugh. i need some more cold pills. and fic. definately fic. my brain hurts.
hope everyone else is well!
