Kyle looked up at Nicki from under his brows. "What are you doing?"
Nick stopped to glance at him. the flame from her match almost touched her fingers and she shook it out. "It's your birthday, isn't it?"
"Well, yeah... but really, Nicki? Twenty candles?"
"Mom's out of town this year, so someone has to do it." Nicki lit another match and continued lighting all twenty candles atop of the blue birthday cake she had baked for Kyle's birthday.
"How come Phil and Justin don't get a million candles on their birthday cakes?" Kyle asked, casting an irritated look at his two brothers who were grinning at him from the other side of the table.
Nicki finished lighting the last candle and blew out her match. "Because when you get to be a certain age..."
"Hey!" Phil moved to stand up, and Justin pulled him down.
"Besides," Nicki said. "You're the baby. It's special."
Kyle folded his arms over his chest. "I'm never going to live this down, am I?"

Summary: Hermione makes a decision.
The walls were thick and so was the silence around her. Hermione's head was filled with nothing but thoughts of him and what life would mean if she were to actually do it; to jump in head first.
She started to run down the hall, faster and faster, until she saw the light coming in at the end from the door that someone had left opened, and she abruptly stopped. She rested her hand on the cool stone and tried to catch her breath.
Outside, the birds were chirping, the sky was blue, and it was such a stark contrast from the silent, stormy, nothingness, that she gained the courage to take the first step out.
It was then that she saw him sitting on the hill with his back to her, and she knew. It was time for a change.
